Would just like to see people's opinions on this day. Having lost my Greatgrandfather in the Great War (artillery regiment) it is a very close cause to my heart, especially this year; I tried to sign up to distribute the poppies but there was an abundance in my area. I have visited the WW1 battlefields and cemetaries on two occasions and both were very touching times. The Menin Gate in Ypres held one of the strongest feelings I have ever felt, each day between 1 and 5 buglers play the last post and it has hundreds there most days. The second time I was there was when there was a group of vetrans visiting, the whole occasion was made even sadder when one died (he was over 95) a few metres from me as the buglers stopped (they are policeman/firefighters/paramedics usually) and tried to help. I am digressing, sorry.

Supposedly it is coming back stronger than ever, I am glad it is, if any cause needs to be remembered, this is it I think.

Wear your poppy with pride, I know I do. As Tim from the Office said "there's something respectable about an old man selling poppies"

I Feel quite ashamed tbh as i only just got a poppy at lunch...

I Have the ultimate respect for anyone who has ever fought for our country and way of life.

Enough said!

We had a service at school, had to read a war poem and 3 of my mates wore cadet uniform and set the wreath. Had bagpipes too. It was all well and good and everyone was very respectful, except we had to sing 'where have all the flowers gone' which is pacifist anti-war happy-clappy hippy s**t :confused:

Have fun!!!- I couldn't do it this year cuz I lost my beret :rolleyes:
I was also really late. Ooops.

The Soldier
Rupert Brooke

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is forever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam;
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

I got my poppy a few days ago (although not many places have had them this year :(), and also had a 2 minutes silence at work. We put notices on the doors, dimmed the lights and stood in almost silnce for two minutes - staff and customers. Only to be interrupted by some ignorant pig asking ''Ave you 'ad a powa cut den?". No respect some people :mad:

I got hold of a Poppy on Tuesday, worn it ever since. I get one every year. It might mean **** to some people but it's my way of showing respect

I wore it today for the labs session (first time at uni; study week) and this rather scared foreign student came up to me and asked why I was wearing it, was very surprised! I think he thought i liked wearing flowers; maybe that's why he asked?!

I wear a poppy Enzo has a poppy on his rear view mirror and i always make damn sure everyone in my house wears one.

Did you guys all do the silence earlier??

Paul, i've been to the battlefields too in the past, they do make you stop and think.

I woke at 10:59 (don't ask) so switched on my radio as it started, great timing.

Alex; I went with both my schools and it is amazing how it made even the dimmest idiots in my year stop and think.

I was in a lecture...flaming lecturer didnt shut up!

Haventy found anywhere selling poppies yet..if i do then i do :D
