Technical 1000 engine?

Hi guys and gals, is the engine in the 4x4 versions the same as the 1000?

same engine, different camshaft for an extra 5bhp. Usually fitted with a different dizzy too but the 2wd 1000s aren't all the same either depending on age and what the Fiat robots had lying about at the time.

Thats cool, so if I have to replace the engine in my 4x4 (think piston rings just shattered), then I can use one from a 2WD 1000? Without loosing the 4 wheel drive of course...

Yes, a 2wd 999cc FIRE will bolt up to the 4x4 transmission no problem. You will lose 5bhp though unless you swap over the camshaft too!

I've got a short engine off a 1988 1000 CL you can have for £50, bolt on your head and you're back on the road with no loss of power.
