Hi,

My alternator belt recently snapped and I am now attempting to fit a new one.

I have taken off the wheel, and the plastic cover (I am guessing to stop mud etc.) and I can now see where the belt is meant to go.

Even though I can see the position I have no idea how the belt should be fitted, what one is the tensioner.

If anyone has any information or images that might help me I would be very grateful.

Many thanks

thanks...that looks very helpful.

what one is the tensioner?

where did you get this from? is it part of a workshop manual?

3.2 in the picture is the tensioner. Use a 14 spanner on it to pull it downwards to get the belt on. Requires a good bit of strength.

Would I just put the spanner behind the tensioner and pull down? Is it really that simple?

Not behind, the tensioner has 2 roles, one is metal where the holding screw goes and one is plastic. The spanner goes on the screw that holds the plastic one and you just push it down, slide the belt on and let it go - thats it.
The tensioner is automatic.

Hi,

Thanks again, when the alternator belt snapped it was whipping around at first and it destroyed a lot of my sound proofing over my wheel arch and it also snapped a cable that came from the wiring loom across the engine bay and had a plug on the end like this:-

Is it possible to rewire this plug? or will i have to bypass it and just connect the two parts of the wire together manually?

Any idea what this wire actually does as this type of plug shows up regularly in the workshop manual.

Thanks

Wire it direct, for what it is exactly, hard to say - I would need a pic of the engine bay location and if that would give enough info.
