Hello, I want to dismantle and check that device, which seems a kind of an actuator that controls a flap on the air intake. do you know how to dismantle it correctly?

Thanks.

Hi mate,

Its the actuator for a butterfly valve that its in the inlet pipe. When the engine is switched off, the butterfly valve closes and cuts off the air supply to the cylinders.

There is a plastic canister on the back of the inlet manifold that stores up vacuum whilst the engine is running, and when the key is switched to off, a valve opens and allows the vacuum to actuate the butterfly valve.

Just to add,

when you turn a JTD off... the engine goes quiet, and then about 5 seconds after the engine has stopped you hear a "thudccccclick" thats the butterfly valve springing back open again.

Ok, I have understood and I've also dismounted that piece.

If anyone is interested, you have to gently pull the plastic cap of the vacuum actuator from the little metallic sphere on the manifold.
Then you can make the actuator slide by gently tapping it with a little hammer, in the direction of the engine (I think is better spray a bit of lubricant).

I have another question.
the axle of the butterfly valve is leaking oil (the famous vapours from the turbo) and is causing a mess in the engine bay.
I have cleaned all the hoses and pipes, so perhaps the problem is solved; anyway, there is a way to improve the sealing of this valve?
I have tried to pull out the axle (I unscrewed two little torx and the butterfly came out), but it stuck in it. I don't pull very hard because I don't know if is possible to extract it.
I also avoided to put some sealant on the axle, because I'm afraid it can become stiff, and so the actuator can't be able to move it.
Any idea?
