Hi all new here
Just bought a very clean low milage 1.9 ducato 85k
I'm convinced there's something amiss with clutch. The biting point is fine etc but it's so so heavy pushing it down and super springy coming back up. So much so finding the bites very hard. Lift foot ever so slightly and peddle may shoot up past biting point.
It's old and agricultural I no but it can't be right.
Any ideas
Any help appreciated

It is not uncommon for the fingers of the pressure plate have had grooves worn into them by the release bearing.

Hey Jack thanks for the reply. Is that the most likely cause for my issue would you say? Wonder what the labour is on changing a clutch on my van

Make sure decent brand clutch kit
(friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing)
is used.
Valeo or luk, for instance

It should be a cable operated clutch. Disconnect the cable at the lever under the clutch housing and make sure it will slide back and forth freely. If it won't a new cable will be the best solution but failing that duck oil to free it followed by plenty of grease for longer term lubrication should solve it. When refitting adjust it so the pedal is at the same height as the brake pedal.

Hey there. Funny you mention the cable. It is a cable clutch. The garage I'm taking it to over the phone seemed pretty content to diagnose clutch cable over a full clutch replacement which would be a bonus. One thing to note is the plastic that covers the wire that attaches at the clutch fork is perished we're it attaches to the fork. Obviously though I can't see inside the cable..... If it turned out do need a clutch release bearing I'd ofcourse have the full lot changed.... What amount of labour hours should I expect for a clutch change if uv any idea? I no in the past iv been billed from 2 upto 8 hours labour on different motors

Roland thanks very much for touching on the cable and giving me some hope.... It turned out to be exactly that just the cable. The clutch feels great now and only cost an hours labour and £30 for the cable
