going to go and have a look at a 1.8 hlx tonight and wondered if there was anything i shud lookout for or ask,
so far i have got,

- 3 keys
- cambelt
- service history
- bodywork

anything else?

havin owned Scratchy for 18 months mate, see if the front heated seats work, (you`ll find a switch under the seat just at the front, if they work then its a bonus if they don`t, don`t worry),
make sure the alarm and central locking work off the remote, while your at it check all electrics: windows, sunroof, (if it has one, check for leaks too if you can, its a swine when you find out in winter how bad it can be),
electric mirrors, rear wiper, and check if the front head light washers work too, (turn on head lights and use the front wiper washer wash the front window and it should wash the front head lamps)

have a drive of it too and it should pull very well in all gears, for a 1.8 its a good car to own plus its one down from bein a hgt, and its also possible to rebadge it as a GT like i did with Scratchy
whats the year anyway and color

this should help you too:

i own a sassi grey hlx and tbh its a good engine.
like rob said a model down from hgt, insurance group 7,better on fuel,i can get roughly 400/420 miles to a tank of fuel.
check for car park dings as its hard to spot on this coulor.look parallel with the bodywork.

not sure if its the same for the 1.8 engines, but my handbook for the jtd says the timing belt should be changed every 72k or 5 years, and if in a cold climate and doing a lot of town driving every 3 years

right well been and bought it, it looks in good nick apart from the side skirts being black but with a little bit of determination he agreed to paint them from me, the bloke didnt even knwo that it had central locking or heated seats!!

with the heated seats how long fo they normally take to heat up?

Kris

Should be pretty rapid. As in about 30 seconds and you should be getting that freshly 'pee'd pants' feeling.

Very nice colour, the 1.8 is a very reliable engine as long as you service it well and change the belts.

Regarding the sill they're not skirts, seems its either some sort of underseal to prevent rust or its a repair job done on the sill. Make sure you get the cars history.

Besides that, looks smart, great colour, hope you enjoy it.

as Joske said, looks a good one that mate, look after it well,
the heated seats should last a while but they have a habit of breakin mainly due to the use of the seats, gettin in and out, they usually work around 30 seconds and you tend to feel it more in winter, comes in handy for when your tryin to warm the car up :)

happy motoring mate :)

cheers for the answers :)

one more question lol,

is the 1.8 i mk1 or mk2? its x reg,

cheers,

Kris

cheers,

whats the difference between the mk1 and mk2 1.8 hlx then?

Not a lot of difference, mostly interior cloth and dashboard colour change (cloth is patterned in Mk1 and plain in Mk2 and the plastics are black in Mk2's instead of grey in Mk1)

You'll also get a different standard stereo which won't have a CD changer cable pre-installed (unless the previous owner had one fitted)

I think Mk2's are more likely to have air con too but that was also an option! Don't forget you've got heated wingmirrors too ;) Just switch on the rear heated screen and they'll turn on! handy for foggy/icy days!

Can't think of anything else...
