i have got a 1.4sx and i am thinking of getting a 1.8 hlx are they any good our should i wait and get a hgt

Beautifully smooth engine.
Reasonably responsive, ideally suited for travelling distances.
You get about 400 miles out of a tank if driven reasonably.
If running with less than half a tank of petrol, can be chucked about for a bit of fun.
For comfort fill up with a tank of petrol, for nimbleness half or less.

I'm swapping my 1.4S for a 1.8hlx soon too. i'm assuming from what everyone else has said that it'll be more than worth it 
hoping for a bit of grin-factor, to compensate for the insurance hike

Go for it mate they are nothing but pure driving pleasure, although mine is going in a the next couple of weeks that only because im moving on to bigger and better things, but it will be hard to let go to my 1.8 as its my love.

Is the engine in the 1.8 HLX the same as the one in my Brava (1.8 ELX)?
I like it just fine - and in a lighter car I think it would go like sh*t off a shovel.

I've had my 1.8 HLX for a year now and i've had nothing but pleasant motoring!
The performance is good but it's not the most powerful 1.8 engine around. You should be able to leave most of the Nova/Fiesta boys behind but don't expect to do the same to Saxo VTS's, Clio 16v's or Golf Gti Mk2's! (as i've found out to my cost!)
Reliability has been excellent for me and a few 'normal' very minor interior rattles is about the only 'fault' i can think of.
Get one now!

off the mark up to 30-40 no, after that you will leave them for dust. mine always did anyway.

The VTR will probably get you in 1st, but you will dtill be pushing him... after 3rd you are gone! the 1.8 is a lovely car! you will not regret it!

get some decent mods on it and you will have it even earlier on. but its so much fun as they pull of in front and you ease past them.
