Maybe this was treated, but I can't find the post.

My car is suffering from head gasket failure, looking around for gasket sets, I found 2 types, composite and a MLS (multi-layer-steel) one, I don't know at this moment which is mine, the head will be removed soon, but the question is, why there are two types? can I fit the MLS instead of the composite one if this is present?

Thanks!

After checking EPER with the VIN, three measures are available for the car, but all are "Fiber" gaskets...

Don't know why can't use MLS if measures are close similar to the fiber ones, and MLS are supposed to be better.

The cylinder head is broken, other buyed from scraps, now there is a new problem, any body has the pistons protusion measures to fit the gasket? mines are 1.13mm and it was mounted the 1 mark fiber gasket, which is for protusions between 0,30 and 0,50mm

I don't understand your question, are you sure the head is broken? The cracks between the valves are normal, you should do a pressure test to be sure.
Always use mls, in fact fiber is good but when it comes to performance the mls can take lots of boost.
Why did the engine overheat anyway?

Hi! I took the cylinder head to a shop to make the pressure test, because there where a lot of cracks, and they said after test that head had a small leak.

I Bought another one on a scraps yard, and I wen't to the shop once to have if checked, this one don't have any cracks, but to stay sure.

I bought the fiber gasket, because I have a lot's of doubts if MLS could be used, anyway, I don't wan't performance.

Wastegate on turbo was sticking closed, and there was overboost al time, don't know if this caused the gasket and head failure, but probably.

Maybe, next time, if if happens again (I hope not), will go for the MLS.

Now, I'm looking at turbo, because it don't spins well by hand, it's a bit stif, maybe was the cause engine don't pull until 2700rpm, don't know.

I was thinking now, if turbo is damaged, to put into a T25 I have of spare from another car, this one is water cooled, and the original is air cooled, so almost 2 T's and 2 tubes must be added, any ideas?

Forgot to say, engine on our hands (last 11 years) never overheated, we suspect there was a problem when one day, parking the car on a descent, some coolant appeared under the car, so opened the bonnet, and seemed to be overpressure on the expansion tank, pouring coolant over the cap.
