just wonder what people thought about the pros and con of upgrading to a 1.4 8v instead of the 16v, as alot of people haven't done it and i just want to know why?

apart from being expensive do you think its a worth while conversion? i am not sure of the BHP or torque, i have to look into that but it looks less complicated in installing that the 16v.

it would need to be MPI, and if you are installing into an MPI car then you the only issue you'd have with the 16v is the alternator.. which is easy to get round.

remember kristians 1.2 16v ran on the stock sei MPI ECU. It'd probably run the 1.4 16v with some tweaks to the fuel pressure.

Pros are that it's probably easier to tune than the 16v (solid rockers, etc.), cons are that it needs tuning!

Either engine will be an improvement on the 1108, 1242 (except maybe the 16v) but is still likely to go boom (or should that be kermph?) if pushed much over 140bhp.

The 16v 1.4 in a Cinq or Sei makes for a damn fine car, though, especially if it's to be your only car. Hard to beat as a choice.

I had been looking into this conversion and the pros and cons of the conversion were;

Pros - 8v so a simpler engine, looks more 'stock', and more room about the engine, where as with a 16v of course the head is bigger and altho not a huge problem does get a bit close to the headlamps.

Cons - As much work as wiring up a 16v required to get it running right, quite expensive to buy as a relatively new engine if I remeber rightly. And the main thing for me was that it had the same/slightly less power than the 1242 16v (84bhp for the 1.4/85bhp for the 1242 16v iirc), and the 1242 would be alot easyer to source and management would be simple enought to swap over from a Punto.

Ofcourse this abviously is what put me off, but by all means dont let it put you off if you are considering it. It certainly would be something different and would give you more of a 'stock' look, plus I guess the engine could be tuned to give a greater torque than a 16v.

It is possible to use the 1.4 block and the cento head with bigger injector (not 100% sure u will need this), and someone like old school to remap with a new chip written for the car!

no, as you increase the size of an injector - you reduce the min amount of fuel it can inject. If you size it up so that it can fuel the 1.4 8v at high speed / load, then you are likely to destroy its ability to idle / perform at low load / speed. You could reduce this using a rising rate fuel pressure regulator.. but it'd still need mapping, and for the hassle you may as well just go MPI.

where does the extra CC come from, is it the stroke or bore? Could look at doing a 16v bottom end 8v top hybrid.. but you'd have piston issues.. unless they are the same bore as the 1242.. but then the rods might differ..

i'll shut up.. just find an 8v :)

I have a 1.4 8v.
It's in the car. None running sat in my lock up :eek:
Going to get a megasquirt kit when i can afford it and do it all properly.
Dont need a car atm and just moved out so its not top of priorities but as soon as anything gets done i'll get some pics and make a thread :)

hmm very interesting...like seisporting in march my car will be my lock up as well and i wanted to do something different and i am tempted to go the 1.4 8v route. This will be my second car so i can take my time and ensure i put it together with the correct mods as well. it would be intresting to see how it compare with the 1.4 16v.
