Hi all, new to the forum & 1.3 engine looking for some advice.

I have bought a 500 1.3 that was suspected timing chain due to rattle noise and non start, it would fire then cut out. Turns out this is because there was barely any oil left. However now the car will start and idle but will not rev at all unless I disconnect the oil breather pipe from the back of the intake. It's blowing quite a lot of gasses & oil out of the pipe. I'm not sure if this is normal or the piston rings are likely knackered? I'm struggling to understand why the throttle won't open though? Could the pressure be that high that it would stop it opening?

Any suggestions much appreciated cheers

Maybe it’s chucking so much oil in its smothered the mass airflow sensor you could try unplugging it see if it then revs but it may put the engine light on suspect the rings at least have had it also check the air filter

The breather pipe feeds into the intake after the MAF so I don't believe that's the issue but I will still check cheers

When you say "barely any oil left" do you mean diesel oil, or "oil" oil?

If it's had timing chain issues and low engine oil, it could have all sorts of damage. First job should be a compression test. It sounds like at least one valve is damaged and you're probably getting blow-by into the crankcase via the valve seat(s), not the rings.

If it was mine and/or I didn't have a compression tester, I'd have the cylinder head off, since that's the only way you'll know what's happened to it. That will also allow you to have a look at the crank journal bearing shells, since low oil and possibly some trauma to the valve gear could have flatted one or more of the shells. It would be rather careless to have the head off and not take the pistons/rods out to have a look there too.
