im guessing that it will redline at around 4000rpm (ish), and rev to about 5000rpm once in the redline

when manufacturers use the same rev counter for petrols and diesels
bit of a money saving measure if you ask me.

I would rev it as much as I think it could bear without butchering it..

if you must rev a diesel past its useable zone, rev it till it stops revving, the number is immaterial
I dont usually take the diesel stilo past about 4000rpm (it redlines at 4.5), if i am in a thrashing mood i will extend it to 5000rpm, whereabouts i get a little turbo whistle which is very enjoyable.
