I was wondering if its possible to fit a 1.3 diesel to the seicento sporting? If so how about putting in an automatic gearbox too?

If not would the 1.2 16v auto from the mk2 punto fit in?

I havent owned a seicento for a while and my friends looking to buy one and it making me want another! Only problem is the standard 1.1 just wouldn't be good enough for my daily commute to work these days :( If i had another one id wanna go all out on it.

why diesel and why an auto why not just drop a 1.2 16v punto motor in and maybe an auto box if thats what you really want but it would be way easier to stay manual as you will have to change the pedals and gear linkage the lot its alot of work for personal opinion no gain

anything is possible but i think what your asking about the diesel engine would not be financially viable as you would need a lot of parts for it

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I want a diesel because of the fuel economy and the low emissions (Gotta be good to the environment!) plus the longer life of a diesel is appealing. Not to mention the fact that i'd love to be the first person with a diesel seicento! (Im pretty sure it hasn't been done before)

I want an auto because ive always wanted a diesel automatic. I know it hampers the economy, and emissions, and acceleration but its something ive always wanted and it still wouldn't be as bad as a petrol.

I'd love a seicento again but if i did id need to put a bigger engine in or at least improve the 1.1 in it. Preferably i want something that will do around 50mpg
I suppose a 1.2 8v or 1.2 16v wouldn't be too bad...

Just another quick question. If one were to have an automatic car but want to change the engine in that. Would the new engine have to be from an automatic? Or could you just plonk any old engine in there?

he might only have 1 leg

I have two very lovely legs thankyou

there a reason there are no diesel (and especially autos ones) centos and thats because there couldnt have been a massive benefit over buying one of those over the 1108, if there was fiat wouldve made the 1.3 diesel long ago and ran it alongside it the 1108

Granted they run/did run a new panda 1108 alongside a 1.3 diesel but the diesel falls into the low emissions/tax bracket so you can see the benefit there, not sure the 1108 falls into this category

Personally i think its pie in the sky stuff and not convinced an auto diesel would produce as good mpg as a 1108 in good condition, auto diesels have never produced anything as good as a manual version of the same vehicle

The easiest thing is just to buy a fiat (or a corsa) already with the 1.3 already in

just been on a run with my 1108 cinq sporting and worked out i am getting 55mpg which amazed me as i have a heavy right foot but as above if it was so good fiat would have done it plus the emissions/tax thing is only for newer cars so unless you do it to a newer one its abit null and void it would be good to see diesel cento but reall cant see the point imho but thats me if you want a car that nippy good on fuel and cheap tax run a 1242 spi sei or if you really are deturminded to do it i wish you all the luck but bear in mind you will need to flush the tank properly and change the fuel delivery system too and also bear in mind that rule of thumb diesel engine are heavier than petrol engines so do something to beef up breaks and suspension and cooling system will have to be better too like i said before its alot of work but if you go ahead and seriously do it i'm sure we will all help where we can and it will be unique oh and just thought take into account engine noise in the cabin too or do you like the sound of tractors lol

The diesel engine looks taller than a cento engine so might be a bit tight but that would be the easy bit.

You have to remember the 1.3MJ is quite a sophisticated engine compared to the diesels of old with electronic fuel injection and variable geometry turbo so I very much doubt you would find the information required to set up an after market ECU.

I guess this means you would need to find a way of swapping the ECU and loom from the donor car. This could be a pain as there is the can bus to also consider so potentially it is instruments etc too unless you are an electronics wizz and can get around all that. But you will still have to fit a new high pressure fuel system and intercooler

I also guess that the matching gearbag will have associated electrics to consider too and i don't think the panda diesels came with an auto box so you would be looking for a grande punto as a donor.

To be honest if you want a small economical diesel there are loads out there that can be had for little money just go out and buy one

I'm gonna leave this one! Its a nice idea but way too complicated for me! Plus im gonna have to pay out a huge bill for repairing my brava so no new car for me :(

Thanks for all your helpful insight guys
