very Intermittantly my girlfriends 2008 petrol 1.2 displays the check engine warning light. I have scanned the car for codes each time and the same code returns every time. P1220 accellerator pedal potent.( feasibility) is the code stored each time. As the fault is so intermittant it makes it nigh on impossible to trace the cause, as it would be very unlikely i would be able to make it fault again at the time of testing. I suspect the accellerator pedal itself to be at fault but would like some input if anyone else has had similar problems and what was replaced.
many thanks in advance

P1220
Series Throttle Control System Malfunction

Now from a google a quick few common things flashed up from other makes relating to the Throttle body sensors / motors ......

eg

Now i might be talking out of my backside but if you have 10 mins to spare try this:

Remove the air box...

similar to this although you will need an alan key for the air intake hose on the 500

then do this:

then reset the eml

then do this

Like i said it might not be it but costs nothing to try if its full of gunk also clean the breather hoses (y)

Oh and welcome to the forum Lukey

Her description of when it happens is pretty vague to say the least lol! As I previously said I suspect the pedal potentiometer to be at fault but thought I'd ask first to see if anyone had similar issues . With it being fairly intermittent it does make it difficult to pinpoint really. I think I'd be very lucky to actually see the potentiometer going out of tolerance on a multimeter and the fact the pedals don't appear to be ccommon to failure is somewhat worrying . Maybe as previously suggested checking the throttle ist physically sticking my be a good starting point without spending any money however id expect a throttle position fault ad opposed to pedal pos.?
