Tuning 1.2 8v Tuning Tips

Thank you all for your replies, really glad i had some real advice putting down! I'll buggar off the pressure valve as not one person seems to like them. I have just invested in a powerflow backbox thats a lot less restrictive and shopping around for a performance catback. I think it was a member on here Jamie, who put a 1.4 head on his 1.2. How do you go about this and what gains/flaws are involved? . Been googling/forum searching for many years so if you guys have any favourite websites i could have missed please jot them down here :-D I'm a big fan of FK the brand. Every experience i've had with there products ive been really impressed. Cheap and reliable. My lowering springs are really good and im investing in the shocks/dampeners to match. In discussion with a nearby metal worker to bespoke me strut bars front and rear so think i'm going in the right direction. Next step, team dynamics pro race 3 alloys. Stunning, don't look chavvy and really lightweight. Also share opinions guys!

If you're really serious about tuning your engine as suggested, reading the proper books is the route you should be going down. You ask questions about what others have done & without sounding dis respective I take it you're a novice to this stage of real tuning?

You can add on after market zorsts & the likes till you're running out of money, with no real results. You can however make some reasonable power increases, but without sounding like an echo, it aint going to be cheap, & again at a guess you wont be doing this yourself.

Again if you're serious about this, it would be good to see how you get on.

The engine you have in your fiat is built for simple driving and not performance, with this in mind I can tell you that anything you bolt to the outside of it really will not help. If you were to even replace the cam say with something with more lift or duration assuming it doesn't cause the valves to hit the pistons the engine's calibration will no longer be applicable so it will not run correctly, and no doubt will run into Knock.

You would do well to read the articles starting at the bottom of this page

Can't believe how much slating etc, this wont work, that doesn't work theres no point etc.

The fact is that the 1.2 8v is one hell of an engine, okay so its a bit low on power and torque but it is very light and tough.

Personally I would suggest changing the cam to an 866 from a Punto75 or late Mk1 60 (98 onwards) this will make the car a fair bit more driveable for very little money.

100bhp Normally Aspirated..
120bhp turbo'd running fap all boost easy
197bhp turbo'd not so easy but achievable

effectively the more power you want the more it will cost, further the more power you want normally aspirated the less driveable it will become.
