bought this 8v supposedly with bad hg, changed battery car started in first try, measured compression (dry) and it was around 175 psi or 12 bar on all 4 cylinders
car was almost cold, car doesnt lack any power
is that normal compression?

I had a carbon coated pistons givong 200psi on my first engine
When cyl1 failed

I fitted a replacement lump, it was much better running obvs
But only had 160psi all over
Didnt change with oil
So I suspect 175 is good with a little carbon :)

As long as hg hasnt gone oil and water, shud be okay

Reckon your good with anything over 150 and all close together. Lot of variables with a test and even when you can find manufactures specs they tend to specify a range of 50 psi with no more than say 20% difference between top and bottom.

Mine was 160 ish and my head gasket wasn't gone as you know so I think 175 is fairly decent on a cold engine.

temp gauge sits on middle, but when i turn on heating its not blowing that hot, it starts to blow hot then it blows less hot and hot again..., there is no air inside, thermostat is new, car doesnt overheat , cable for hot setting isnt snapped and flaps move, never had same problem on a punto, can it be headgasket after all?

On my 16v i had no heating but it started out as intermittent. I pulled the hoses and flushed the heater matrix with a hose (attach hose to the 'out' on the heater matrix to push the rubbish through). That solved my heating issue :)
