General 1.2 8v burning oil

I am having exactly the same problem as you but ive been recommended to change the sump first and see what happens after...its puzzling isnt it..hope you find a solution and I will lwt you know how I get on once my.sumps changed

since doing my thermostat replacement/ (addition ) my fuel consumption has gone up maybe 10%, the trip computer actually reads about 10-15% higher than actual/the fuel gauge would indicate, at around 64mpg over the last 75 miles, 45 of which have been motorway miles.

the downside is the warmer engine is making more oil leak out (or be burnt off) as its warmer oil and so seeps out easier......

Have you done a compression test yet? As it really is the only way of finding out what your engine is doing...

Continue to leave your engine to burn oil the worse it can get, it won't magically fix itself....Talking from experience here, my old engine used to burn oil but I always ignored it cause it only did it on start up after that it'd be fine (no obvious signs which is what I mean).

Then year later it packs up, wherever that was due to oil being burnt or just general wear and tear or from it overheating once or twice, is questionable, but let's not go there because that's going off scope of this thread.

So do a compression test, post the results here so we can all dig in and point you in the right direction. Don't avoid it, you'll regret it!

I wish I did a compression test sooner on my old engine before it packed in, but ah well life goes on! :)
