Technical 1.1 engine mod......

Hi peeps. I recently bought my neighbours x reg seicento off her as she unfortunately wrote it off in an accident. I am breaking the car but keeping the engine for my Panda. I know that it makes more sense to fit a 1.2 but as i already have this motor and my Panda is stripped, i will be happy with the 10bhp gain. Now to the nitty gritty.......has anyone done this before? Which wires do i need to tap into??? there is no haynes for a Sei, so would i go by the cinq. haynes wiring diagram? Basically its my first engine swap and im bit scared....any help with where start would be greatly appreciated.(y)

Hi Easterly, thanks for the reply. Yes to both. Its an injection Panda and the Sei is SPI. Infact i already have a 1.1 throttle body fitted to the Panda engine which is identical to the original apart from one vaccuum pipe which i have blocked off. So Am I correct in thinking that the 1.1 will run on the Panda ecu?

It will. The mapping will still be to the 1.0 engine, but you should still get a power increase from the engine.

If you manage to find a early 1.1 Punto ECU that should also be a straight swap (you want early pre immobiliser or it'll complicate things) or even a ECU from a 1.1 Panda Selecta (unfortunately I've sold all mine) and that'll also plug and play I believe :)

Awesome! Thanks Easterly....So let me just get this straight in my head (very small head)....If i get a standard 1.1 Punto ecu without immobiliser, it will plug straight into the Panda ecu plug? Or I can simply bolt my seicento engine into the Panda and connect it all up the same as the 1.0l engine is now. I'll prob start with just fitting the engine and using the Panda ECU as the car is my daily driver, so i will allow myself a 3 day weekend. May aswell change the clutch while im there too. Thanks very very much for the help easterly. (y)

Speak to gazzaman2k - you can use the Sei's ECU and he can provide a chip for the princely sum of £12 to remove the immobiliser component and also to provide a very slight power and torque increase. The Cinq haynes will also cover anything Sei relate you might want to know, as long as (as yours is) it's the SPI Sei we're talking about.

Hi eklipze. So the ecu pins are the same and will plug into the panda ecu plug? If that's the case then that definately makes sense as its the cheapest and easiest solution.

Thanks eclipze. That was the logic i was working with too. Knowing how lazy fiat are with parts interchangeablilty i was hoping that that may be the case. More investigation needed then. What i could really do with is a diagram of the pin positions on the 1.0l panda ecu and the same of the sei ecu. I dont suppose anyone would have these diagrams???(y)

Right ok....I have found an ECU diagram list for a 1995 1.1 cinquecento and 1992 on 1.0 Panda Fire. All pins seem the same....it even mentions that pin 26 (on the 1.0 ecu) "is the +12 from ignition switch for 999 and 1108 engines."

That says to me that the ecu will run the 1108 without any problems. I would guess that as the ecu has "eco" written on it that it is the economical map settings for the 1108?

Hmmmmm. Seeming easier by the minute.
