I recently replaced the rear drum brakes on my 1996 Tempra and the brakes are working fine, however, since the replacement, the handbrake is not securing the car. Any tips?

the pads were fitted in the right order, in fact, i feel that I do have rear brakes. Its just the handbrake that is not working. I did not move/replace the handbrake cable

When you remove the drum and look at the shoes inside, you'll see two arms going to the top of the shoes, one each side. they're not attached to the cylinder, they come from the back of the drum. make sure these are in place on both sides, if not then the will be no force on the shoes from the handbrake causing it to feel weak, as theyre is not enough grip. if this is the case, once fitted in place you should notice a significant difference. If they are both in place, the splitter may have come loose when you originally did the shoes and removed the arms. it usually fits just infront of the fuel tank.

Sorted, one of the adjusters broke, so my left hand brake was null. Thanks ya all
:)
