Engine siezed

Hi people in the know
This is my problem, i have ducato 2006 van when i turned the ignition off it would not restart i had it towed to a garage, they informed me the engine has siezed but the timeing belt is intact ... They recone it could be the bottam end, but there was no loud noises i just turned it off, so it is it at all posible the starter moter could be jammed in the engine preventing it to crank over?

Re: Engine siezed

But surely no garage in their right mind (especially in this day and age (compemnsation culture) would try to pull the wool?
And I can't imagine a mechanic saying the engine is siezed if it is the Sm that's jammed - or am I being a bit naive?

Re: Engine siezed

It dose seem so strange to me that an engine siezes when there is oil and no visible damage or previous problems,....when i turned the ignition there was 1 click from the starter motor so we wacked it a few times then tried a bump start still nothing apart from that when turning the ignition the sm clicked about 3 times ...thanks for the replies

That is sounding more like a starter problem or fubar battery than a siezed engine, did it actually turn over when you tried to bump start it?

Re: Engine siezed

I just had the alternator and battery changed so, i myself have allways thought that it is the starter motor ....if it is posible that it can jam in the engine i dont know.. I am flying my mate from england as i think the garage is having one over on me , my mate said if we take the starter motor then then try to turn then engine by hand hope it works = D. Have you herd of a starter motor locking the engine if gose?

Re: Engine siezed

The solenoid can engage the SM and it can jam in the engaged position. You'd need to pull it out to verify this.
Whilst the SM is engaged, it would be possible to bump (not jump) start the car but with the engine running, it wouldn't be long before the SM began smoking.
Are you sure the engine had enough oil and water?
