i have have a small gear knob and stick thingy sorry dont know how to make a guide

should have made a guide if i knew where and how to, really it was so easy all i did was

1 Take off old gear knob if small Allen key

2 take the tape off that the screws, screw into

3 get the grinder out and grind 2-3cm off the gear stick be carefull you dont set your car on fire!!!!

4. put tape onto smaller part of the stick for the screws to go into, then place gear knob on. and tighten it up and its done nice small gear knob and stick

What about the lift/reverse lever under the knob you have made no comment about this or what you have done in relation to it

According to a previous post (https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo-styling/52726-new-gear-knob-2.html) at least one forum member (Snowyyo) is driving about with this mechanism completely removed- no ill effects reported, or else they don't want to tell us it doesn't work!
I gave mine a quick spin without it, all seemed well- I'll check that the reverse light comes on without it before I consider removing it first! :)

As Phil mentions, the removal of the reverse gear lift up mechanism sounds worrying if you have a 1.2 or 1.6 gearbox
The reverse gear gate position is further over to the right than 5th gear on these boxes. You can see this if you look at the drawing on top of the gear knob for 5 speed Stilos. You can feel what the problem is going to be by pulling the reverse gear gate mechanism up when selecting 5th gear. You go straight past 5th gear with nothing to stop it

What engine size is this on? Could be fine on those without lift up reverse. Are you not experiencing difficulty with finding the 5th gear gate with the reverse selector lift up mechanism removed? I would have thought you'd probably take a bit of fishing to find it

i have 5 forwards gear and R is left and down no tear drop like in my old corsa that is why i am able to do this, to me when i drive it now it feels like the gears are shorter which is a good thing! done it and its payed off for me it works, looks good and theres no problems:)

how do i make it a guide

1.6 16v dynamic i will check the guides then

I also have a 1.6 Dynamic and reverse is to the right and down ..after I have lifted the lever under the knob that is  we need to start another poll I think to see where all the reverse gear positions are on the 1.6 ..did fiat make two different boxes for the car :chin:

I found 5th gear a bit "fishy" when I got my Stilo, and that was tith the lift reverse mechanism intact! This may require some experimentation: tomorrow is leave-the-car-&-go-to-the-pub day :D but this weekend I might whip the lift bit out and give it a test drive to see how 5th feels, if it is awkward there might be a simple way of working it out, but we'll never know if we don't try!

some of you might recall from some of my posts that i really wanted to do this, but since having the car, and driving with the armrest down (very comfy even thoght it makes the handbrake a tad awkward) i have found that the length of the gear stick it exactly right, i.e. falls right in your palm, so mabye i wont shorten it but i'll definately change the knob :slayer:

minimad99, the jtd doesnt have the lift reverse, just the weak petrols :D
