Technical BEEP BEEP Engine Fault, becoming frequent

I've been there with the hoping theyd nick it too. I've pretty much had it with the car, even if it's completely fixed, i just can't be bothered with it anymore, my warranty is almost up and i always said that it was getting ditched before it ran out. Motorpoint offered me 4500 on trade in against an 06 vectra sri at 9000 which has done about 7000miles, seems like a good deal, hardly a scratch on the car looks brand new. Saves me losing depreciation on an 07 plate.

Well mine is going as soon as I get this sorted, hopefully I wont have the trouble u had getting it fixed.

I love the car and hav always wanted an Abarth, but after this I wont b buying fiat again. My next car will be a Jap.

The AA man told me to go for honda or toyota, he also said the normal standard fleet cars like mondeos, vectras etc are pretty much solid, dont have many stupid niggles.

If your going to trade it in why bother spending good money after bad? Motorpoint didnt even look at my car for the valuation...

ye I was thinking about a Honda, If I trade I will get *uck all for it so I am going to try and sell it privately.

Thanks for the info, I will post on Tuesday after I hear from the Garage..

UPDATE:

Fiat UK called today, they have got all the case info and have been onto allison street fiat. I've to take my car in for a valuation and an appropriate replacement, Fiat are willing to pay the difference between the valuation and the cost of a reasonable replacement. Has to be another stilo. I'd thats spells victory!

Now what should i hold out for?

I had an 04 stilo jtd, plagued with electrical reliability problems, kept cutting out, not storing the fault codes, in the end I traded the damn thing in, I got nowhere with fiat uk, they couldnt give a damn.
The stilo really is an awful car, BUT you shouldnt let it put you off ALL FIATS, we've owned 3 doblos, 2 pandas, 2 puntos, with not much trouble.

Was thinking about holding out for a JTD now that i'm on the motorway all of the time.

At the very worst, if i can something with a higher trade in value, then im set. Not doing the vectra thing, looking at a hyundai coupe, might give the replacement a chance first...you never know...it might be a good one. The fiat bloke said it HAD to be a fiat and most likely a stilo...

Ok I left the car in Tuesday morning they connected it up to the examiner and changed the spark plugs, apparently the ones that were in it were not suitable, It seems to have done the trick, usually after the 9 miles home from the garage I would have had about 3 cases of beep beep beep engine fault followed by a maximum of 2500rpm.

I never thought it would have been something as simple as the spark plugs...

Maybe U didn't need a new car after all Chris!! I hope there was more to it than the spark plugs, u seemed to have the very same symptoms as i had..

Say nothing..... (y)

Well...the new car might not be happening...definitley not as planned anyway.

The story takes an interesting twist...you'll never believe this!

So, i was told i was getting a replacement, take my car to the dealer, dealer to call back with value and we'll arrange a deal....

SO thats what we do...but we cant get the guy who is dealing with the case for 2 days, then on the 3rd day "he doesnt work here anymore" and an implication that it was linked to my case. I was then told that he had no right to offer me a reasonable replacement and that it was not logged in the case history. They will be sending up one of the area techs on monday to repair my car fully and once complete we will come to an agreement on a gesture of goodwill. Gutted!:bang: Didnt matter what i said i got the same bull.(n)

SO i still have the stilo, for the time being. Still planning on getting shot of it, but going to hold off until i see what this gesture of goodwill amounts to.

I'd imagine if it was spark plugs the tech would have spotted it by now, my fault logs Throttle Management response codes in the ECU, but the symptoms do sound very very similar. Bizarrely enough, i put the city button on for a couple of days and it has not had an episode since...

Car is in the dealers, got a grande punto for the weekend, man it's slow, but atleast it works.

Following on .... After buying a coil, I moved it from cylinder to cylinder until I got to No 3 and this seemed solve my probles. Car pulling well, idling smoothly etc until yesterday when the jerking returned and warning light came on. I have bought an ODB interface and plugged this in & connected my Palm. Result is that I now have two codes P0203 & P0204. Anyone know how I would go about checking the fuel injection on cylinders 3 & 4?

Were these codes recorded before or after the coil change?
Are your plugs ok?
Is the coil connector in properly?

You can find some help here on the DTC

Personally I'd take it for a bit of blast first and then see what happens. Maybe try some injector cleaner then I'd get down to checking injectors with a multi meter

After changing the coil. Has been on a 40 mile trip after which the jerking re-appeared and so did the codes.

Is it missing all the time? Smooth on tickover? On acceleration mostly? Did you have chance to give it some welly? No ignition fault codes P0301-4?
Too bizarre to get injector fault codes for cyls 3 and 4 suddenly popping up when you just changed coil No 3

Did you change the No 3 coil just because that cylnder wasn't firing or was their really a dead coil there. Put the old coil back in somewhere else to try it. (thinking the injector may have been to be blame for the misfire in the first place)

No, not missing all the time and the other two are not coming up on the codes. I can't quite understand why replacing the coil on No 3 had such a dramatic effect ? I thought of trying some injector cleaner as this fault has been bugging me for some time. I also cleaned the throttle body but could not really see any buildup of dirt there. Thanks for the help.
