The fact that i solved the door locking problem only highlights how crap car dealers really are and how so amazing adept i am and anything i turn my hand to! [^]

I totally agree with you Stiloboy.... we pay good money for a car that should work, only to be chasing around after some anoying faults... I do think the service departments in some dealer think we are reporting these faults for a laugh or making them up as we have nothing better to do with our days!

do you have any other dealers within striking distance you could try?

Every Fiat dealer around here is Arnold clark, Fife, tayside, lothian.
If there is any other not controlled by them they are well hidden

That sucks! it also means you have a harder time getting a good deal as you cannot really play the same dealer network off against another.... unless they are in a commission war with another branch in getting FIATS volume bonus.

worst it means the service you get is going to be similar in each of them as I guess they all will be playing from the same script! or is their one of the dealers in the network thats more helpfull than another?

You just have to keep on at them and keep taking the car back until its fixed or they get someone from FIAT involved.... but all of this is a HASSLE!

Not to fear, as soon as the car is out of warranty i'll be going to an independant garage!

Talking of Arnold Clark in Kirkcaldy, one of my colleages took his Honda to the Honda dealer (Arnold Clark too) next to the Fiat one for a service, this cost him £120 which is outrageous for what is basically just an oil change but he wanted to get the dealer stamp in his service book. And get this the garage then tried to fleese him out of £550 for brake pads on all wheels saying they were knackered, the mid section of the exhaust knackered and a split suspension bush! So he took the car to a small independant he got his wifes Punto MOT'd at and the garage said, everything the Honda garage said was gash, brake pads still had 50% of their meat on them, the exhaust was fine, why change it now, wait for it to blow, and the bush looked fine! Stiloboy

I've got real sympathy with you when it comes to Arnold Clark (Glasgow in my case). The dealer service is very very poor. I've had several faults back a number of times withe a Brava I once had and now my Stilo. Each time handed the keys back and told there was no fault. I find the best thing to do is ask to see the foreman and talk itover with him explaing the fault nad take him out to the car and point them out. Next time you can point the finger at him and say "wha's your excuse now, you seen them." I found this normally works.

Also, remeber the new consumer law, if a car develops a fault within the first six months it's deemed to have been there from when you picked it up new. If you have this many faults you may have grounds to reject the car. If you start talling about this they may take things more seriously. Also, phone Fiat customer care and tell them the problem you have and that the dealer is rubbish. They might put a call into them for you. If they get a call it may put more pressure on them.

Also, there's a Reg Vady Fiat in Paisley - might be a bit far though.

Hope this helps

Hey Paisley wouldn't be too far if the service was better. Might consider it in future, plan a trip to Glesgae for a shopping trip and book the car in on way... :I

Also on the Arnold Clark note, go to Google and do a search on Arnold Clark, first hit i believe is a "fan" site (i use the term very loosely), called ARNOLD CLARK SUCKS .com. Its a one man crusade against Arnold Clark, i believe a Glasgow branch! Its really poorly put togeather (i think intentionally so), it can be a hoot! :p

hehe, was another arnoldclark hate site given to me on the mg-rover forum, sites amusing, although unsure why I was given it, my issues with forthway at the mo

I've still got the sticker on, its only still on 'cos i don't want to make a ham fisted attempt at removal and have ripped bits of Arnold Clark sticker stuck to the back windscreen. When the weather gets a bit warmer i will attempt removal of offending item!

Here's a quote from the Arnold Clarke sucks site; [:0]

"41 point service for £69 quid? what a laugh that one is. more like a 6 point service, up with the bonnet. change plus and air filter. up on the ramp drop oil out of sump, replace oil filter have a quick look round to see that there is water in radiator expansion tank and windscreen washers. pour some oil onto door hinges give top of battery a wipe just to make it look like some one was there. shut bonnet and stick out in the customers car part and wait for mug to return and remove 69 quid from him/her. if its quiet try and find things that you can replace at a cost to customer like brake pads, handbrake cable, bushes, ball joints, slave cylinders wipers etc these are all easy to fit and make money for the wee man. if only the general public knew what went on when their wee car gets driven through the workshop door. I work at one of Arnolds branches and I would never ever let some of the idiots that work there anywhere near my car, it is a source of bewilderment to me that people!
e actually think their car will be looked after while in here. the fact is we don't give a f*** about the customers car. I have seen mechanics and apprentices wheel spinning brand new cars around the spare ground at the back, smoke and rubber flying off the tyres. . famous 41 point service ? famous cause we do f*** all except the above, zoom, zoom, screech, screech. thank you for doing business with Arnold Clark Automobiles. now give us the cash and get the F*** out of here."

This story is particularly shocking. These people are cowboys!

"Bought fiat Brava from crow rd branch in Jan. advertised as 27000 miles ,I paid for it then the sales man told me on the mot it said 62000 ,they refused to give me back my money or choose another car. they said the cars mileage was correct when I asked if they had investigated it they said no we have a declaration from the previous owner phoned the garage that gave it a mot and on computer they had 62000.,said it was highly unlikely it was a mistake Arnold got them to issue me with another mot certificate.
trading standards are investigating my case. I'll keep you informed."

wow, feck sake, think i'll get that Bravo HPI'ed for sure before I go get it (rover replacement, stilo is staying [8D]
Thats damn scary.

I know ive got issues with Forthway Rover but they are at least honist (more then uncle arnold appear to be anyway) with the cars they sell, like a Brava jdt they have, has 34k on the dash but right away the sales man said the cars had a replacement dash and its milage reset, real milage is 55k

Forthway are just as bad.... my ma had dealings with them, so did i with my Saxo once, i then took the car 30miles away to avoid Forthway.

Funnily enough, i would recommend Laidlaw in Kirkcaldy, but they only do Ford! B)
