Hi all, New owner of a Stilo MW 1.6 Active Aircon.
Still finding my way around all the bells and whistles ... 2 items puzzle me and I haven't found any reference to them in the owners manual. (I could have missed it)
1. What's the purpose of the recess in the dash in front, and lower than the light stalk ?, seems to be an oddball shape, but can't imagine what it's meant for.
2. Immediately behind the centre of the windscreen between the demist vents is a domed bump, at first I thought it was a sensor of some kind ?, could be just a bolt of some kind with with a plastic cap, but looks more important than that. Pic attached.
Things like this bug me, ideas anyone ?. :D

1 - i believe on non uk cars this is where the start/stop button is for keyless entry - not available on uk cars so we get this erm gap thing instead.

2 - is a sensor for the AC, it measures the amount of sunlight i believe entering the car.

Well Thanks for the replys Guys, Think I'll try using the erm gap thing for my GPS receiver if it will work well there, That's another thing I haven't decided, How and where to mount the PDA, I don't like the windscreen sucker mounts ... my experience is you get lots of vibration with them. As for the dome thingy, I'll settle for the sunlight sensor explanation .. I do have aircon not climate control.(y) :D

Heres how mines mounted?
Hi bozzy,
Thanks for the input ... looks as if you've mounted in the dashboard vent, is that a commercial fitting or some homebrew gizmo ?. I've heard that you can buy fittings like that but have never seen one. It's certainly convenient there, I'll look into that one. (y)

i think that domed bump thing on the dash is the dusk sensor for cars fitted with the comfort pack (automatic head lights)

I have AC but I don't have that bump on the dash, just a flat circle.

:yeahthat:

Mine is an Active Aircon... Dads is a Dynamic MW and his has climate and said bump, but no comfort pack :) As for the cubby... totally useless!

Jacko27, cheap e-bay mount that looks incredibly cheap but works perfectly. So unobtrusive you hardly know it's there.

Hi again bozzy,
Good one !.Thanks for the link, that had expired by the time I saw it, but I found a later one .... since it still had 4 days + to run I opted for the buy now price ( no biggy) and hope to recieve it either tomorrow or thursday. It looks a quick and neat solution.

dalemw,
Now you have me guessing, I don't know what a comfort pack is, let alone if I have one. I assume if you're right, that if I turn ignition on after dusk, then lights should automatically come on, can't see how else it would work. ... I can check that out later, watch this space. ;) :D

If you have auto lights, there will be an AUTO setting on the light stalk.
OK Stuart,
I checked there is no auto setting on the light stalk, looks like another theory is out of the window. LOL I'm still curious though.

Hi Folks,
I've been checking the brochure for the Stilo ... the Comfort pack (parking sensors + auto lights + rainsensor) is an optional extra on this model, so chances are that dalemw is correct on this one (y) ... I note too, that Cruise Control is an optional extra on the active aircon version, so need to investigate doing the mod for that. ... fingers crossed. ;)

Hi Bozzy,
Got the mag mount in yesterdays post, fits fine, and GPS is up and running. I need to tidy the cables up some though. ... the power socket doesn't help being toward the rear of the centre console. I'll sort it somehow. ;)

I threaded the curly cable up through the centre console and up inside the air controlls. You can see it pop out above the control panel. Thats the only visible cable.
