does anyone know the annual servicing costs of the Abarth?

sorry if there's a thread dedicated to this but ive done a searcha and cant find anything!

cheers!

Just made a post about it in another thread... took mine in on Tuesday and it only cost me about £58 (R700). (keep in mind that I am in South Africa).
Can't see that it could be all that different in the UK, but I might be wrong.

£58 for an Abarth service - no chance.....

Through a main dealership, more like £200, although I know the 36k one was a killer - I have all my previous 3 service invoices, so will dig them out.

I just had my first service which was a low mileage one and Fiat dealers were quoting me £160-£180. I took it to an independant garage that was VAT registered and very trustworthy with my car. I took my own 5ltr can of Selenia oil which was £29  and the sevice itself cost me £88 and I got my book stamped too :)
So a total of £117 for mine.

My car was serviced at a main Fiat dealership. (In South Africa they are also the dealers for Alfa and Nissan).

The breakdown on the invoice is as follows (Using xe.com to convert currency):

Total Labour: R390.00 (£34.66)
Oil Filter: R47.05 (£4.18)
Oil (Castrol GTX): R135.00 (£12.00)
Consumables: R39.00 (£3.47)
Engine Cleaner: R15.00 (£1.34)
TAX: R87.65 (£7.79)
------------------------------------
Total: R713.70 (£63.41)

(Sorry, my estimate of £58 was slightly low)

Just looking into getting my 48k service done and am getting quotes around £250, although they say that's for a "big" service, not a small one!

Autoworld Fiat said £275 all in (including parts, etc) wheras my local Fiat Garage gave a price of £225. I reckon I'll be going with the local garage as it's where I got the car from and have a 20% off services voucher! :D

Castrol GTX in an Abarth
Here in old blighty (Britain) we are obliged to use the recommended oil which is selenia 20k iirc otherwise it will void the warranty. At least I think that's the deal ?

I don't think you get selenia 20k over here, never heard of it. Do you know what SAE it is?
The Castrol GTX Magnatec they put in my car was 10w-40. It's also what they put in the Alfa 147 and 156. It's not a bad oil, but I prefer Shell Helix.

Not sure about that - my local Fiat garage just told me to put in Castrol GTX as it's the same but cheaper!

The technical specs of the two oils are similar...

Castrol GTX Magnatec:
SAE 10W-40 ACEA A3/B3 API SL/CF VW 505.00

Selenia 20K:
SAE 10W-40, ACEA A3, API SJ/CF, FIAT 9.55535, VW 500.00/505.00

the owners handbook says the Abarth should use 5W-30 .......

Thats weird. When I picked my car up, the guy at the dealers told me I should only use Selenia oil, thats whats on the underside of my hood ( the car hood thankyou very much  ) as it would void my warranty if I didn't, I looked at him quite shocked as I knew it was expensive stuff but he stuck by it even after I said I won't be servicing the car at his garage anyway.
I also read this somewhere else, it may even be in the pack I got with the car, I'll check it tomorrow

Well, I purchased mine second hand from a non-Fiat dealer, so was never told otherwise.

I have had quite a bit of warranty work done [and that was with the CDA and lowering springs fitted], and nothing has ever been said to me about 'do you use Selenia?'

Selenia is the recommended oil for Fiat and Alfa. I'm pretty sure that as long as you use the recommended oil grade then it will not invalidate your warrenty; if it did then Fiat have a serious problem with their dealers supplying incorrect oil - both Bishops of Guildford and Wilson Purves of Crawley used Castrol GTX Magnatec in my car. Maybe someone should ring Fiat UK and ask for clarification?

My Alfa pack says recommended fluids and lubricants e.g. Selenia 20k. Note the use of the work "recommended" and not mandatory. There is also an interesting footnote that says "for decidedly sportive use.....use SAE 10w60 synthetic".

as an aside

GTX Magnatec is available in both 10w-40 and 5w-30 ! (but 5w-30 is very hard to find!)

checked last night and my owners handbook definately specifies 5w-30.....
