Technical "Water in Fuel Filter" error message

I am getting "Water in Fuel Filter" error message which literally flashes up for a second then disappears.

I suspect a faulty sensor, but just in case - how do I drain the filter?

I have a 1.9 jtd Stilo.

Disconnect the wiring connector at the bottom of the filter, then unscrew the water in fuel sensor to drain the filter.

I think the canister has a thumb screw at the bottom... but I've never carried put the process. Could be just undo, drain, tighten... with the engine off.
