Afternoon guys,

Just thought id revive some usefull information that i was referring to and from today when me and my mate tackled front passenger side wishbone on my 3dr active.

Got stuck at the ball joint that goes onto the strut and was u sure if suspension had to be depressed, reffered to this today https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/247086-mot-faliure-help-please.html and we had the old worn wishbone out within about 20 - 30 mins without using a ball joint splitter (its gone walkys from a toolbox!!) Anyhow, new balljoint went in like butter so nipped the hinge (bolting point) with a g clamp and then nipped it all up and torqued it up when the car was dropped and all on 4 wheels. Used an axel stand and heavy juty trolley jack and some bricks under the rears and my spare wheel under the front... Wanted to be safe lol.

Also changed rear discs n pads other day and did fronts today, didnt see a need to re-bleed as not let any air into the system and half used a bleeding kit bit by when winding and pushing pistons back to take the excess fluid out of the resevoir (as the pistons went back). All feels good and sharp, may try bleeding it all next week if i start to notice any sort of brake fade / spongyness (as had this before, but only after a week).

So, a big thanks to the info on this forum, oh to point out, both rear calipers wind back clockwise, not as someone said different on here... Both mind winded back clock wise.

Keep up the info people, saved me an extra 150 on labour over past couple of days :) happy days.

Every time I've replaced rear pads on Stilos, the left and right rear calliper pistons have wound back in opposite directions. The wind back tool supplied by Fiat has one left hand threaded screw and one right hand threaded screw to accomplish this. (Pic. and description of the tool's use from eLEARN below).

Stilo left rear callipers are all the same, and Stilo right rear callipers are all the same, so this procedure should be the same for all Stilo versions.

I bet you'll find you're winding out the piston timmins, not winding it in.

Mine was definitely left handed thread and it was seized solid too, refused to go back in. Had to take it off the car and completely strip it and even then it was still very awkward.

Going to treat her to some new rear calipers in the not too distant future I think.

Strange, they both wound in, wouldn't wind out, i thought had they seized... But they turned in and wound back, ex mechanic friend of mine helping was also puzzled... Anyhow all is good and after readjusting hand brake cable they are better than ever...
