I've posted a few topics on here now and had some help. I've sorted most of the problems on the stilo just one left now.. the brake lights stay on without touching the pedal .. but if I lift the pedal up abut they go off. is there anyway of adjusting the pedal switch that turns the lights on. or move the pedal up ? it just has a little pay in the pedal and its enough to make the stilo think I have my foot on it and put the brake lights on :p any suggestions ? Very very common problem on the Stilo, I've had two and both have had this happen.

Its a reverse switch, so with the switch pressed in the lights are off and vice versa, this is why you are finding the lights do actually go off when you pull the brake lever up.

What's happening is the switch is wearing out and the spring inside it is getting weak.

Anyway, never have I replaced the switch in either of my two Stilos. There are three ways to fix this.

1. The easiest way is to get a coin or two and stick them to the small plate on the brake lever which presses the switch in with a little bit of black tape this will pack it out enough to stop the problem.

2. Bend the small plate on the brake lever towards the switch a little more, this is a careful process however as you don't want to move it too far and you also don't want to break it off as it is welded on.

3. Replace the switch totally. Fiat would recommend the right one. Personally I just do a bit of DIY.

Hope one of these methods works for you.

Totally agree Mark, that's the easiest way of doing it.

Would be interesting to hear if someone has managed to adjust the switch. I think it's a sealed component.

Have had same issue, it can be an easy fix just need to depress the pedal with your hand and using long nose pliers ( also used open-ended 10mm spanner) and pull the white plunger down as far as it will go, once done slowly release pedal and as it touches the switch you will hear it clicking as it pushes the plunger back into the switch housing and resets itself, may take a couple attempts to get the plunger down all the way but keep trying

The brake pedal switch can go out of adjustment if you lift the pedal (accidentally or otherwise), and if you let the pedal spring back up, as would happen if you were pressing the pedal down and your foot slipped off of it.

It also needs adjusting correctly whenever a new switch is fitted.

To adjust it, hold the pedal on the floor then pull the centre plunger out of the switch as far as it will go (thin nosed bent pliers are ideal for pulling the plunger), then let the pedal up slowly until it stops. You should hear a ratchet on the plunger clicking as you let the pedal up.

thanks for all the responses ill try to adjust it 2moro if that wont work ill defo be glueing a penny to the back of the plate :)
