Hi all just a quick question
I was looking under the hood of my 1.6 16v 3dr and found a black pipe that looks like it runs from the grill to a black box to the left of the battery

The problem is it has a perfectly round shaped hole in it about the size of a 50p coin is it ment to have this hole and what does it do

Sorry for a stupid question but I'm not a mercanic so only know how to drive cars lol

I think we need a photo to be certain.

It sounds like it might be the air intake to the air filter box. In which case, it would be OK to clean the plastic pipe with methylated spirits or glass cleaner, then stick some duct tape over the hole, ironing it down thoroughly with your thumbnail.

But it's also possible that some sort of pipe is supposed to fit onto that round hole - such as, an aluminium hot-air collection pipe. I do think we need a photo

Posibly the resonator box as shown attached to item 4 in this diagram.

Yes, your resonator box has broken off, leaving the hole. Don't worry, it happened to me - just tape over the hole and carry on. I noticed no adverse effects on the car whatsoever.
