There have been many stories on the forum relating to coils failing .......
Today our stilo1.4 had a routine service . The garage reported that the leads to the coil packs had brittle insulation apparently due to heat. The leads are sandwiched between the air cleaner and the head and so presumably suffer from considerable heat. I would guess in the worst case this could lead to a short and possibly misfiring. So far after nearly 8 years and 60k miles no coil problems have been experienced by us.
In any event its something to be aware of and has anyone else had the same problem and/or even replaced these leads?

I have the 1.2 and have noticed similar heat damage; the protective black sleeving becomes brittle and falls apart leaving the fragile cables exposed. The cables themselves were intact but discoloured due to the heat.

When I replaced the plugs a couple months ago, I renewed all the sleeving at the same time. Ten minute job, max. Got the sleeving from here: http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/340/category/66

in the past 6 months I've had two coil packs burn out on the way to work. 1.6 with only 45000 on the clock. I'm jst replacing with cheap aftermarket parts as there half the price of the ones from Fiat. Wires seem to be ok but it's Defo somthing to check. Good shout
