Hi all!

After long consideration I decided to buy a new Fiat Stilo 1.8 Dynamic, being a fan of Italian cars. However after making my mind and ordering the car I had a look on the web and I found out that Stilo comes with a lot of problems, which could be very annoying. I read that there are a lot of problems with the computer, which gives a lot of error messages (airbags etc), with the suspension which needs changing, with the rear tyres that wear off rapidly, with the Radio/CD player system, which often does not work, with the indicator lights that do not go on when you lock/unlock the car and so on... I've been extremely worried and I haven't even got the car yet! Do you have any idea if any of these problems are solved with the Stilos currently sold? I had a chat with the dealer (I live in Switzerland) and he said that apart from the airbag error message and a lot of problems with the Abarth (electronics and salespeed) they haven't really faced any other problems with the Stilos, but of course he should say that, he just wants to sell the car.

I would appreciate any advice on what could I do and what should I check when I'll get the car.

Thanks

Same can be said of any new car. Had a few problem with my last car. Nissan Primera 1.8. Se. estate.
It seems that there are cures for the problems, it depends on your dealer, mostly they are very good it's just Fiat themselves who are a pain.
Still, there is nothing about to compare with it on price and what you get, real inovation. I think someone has at last listened to what the consumer wants.
By no means it's not perfect, but all the same I like mine.:)

I agree. You'll find people complainimg about their new car whatever the make. The interior build quality on mine is a bit iffy, but it's an amazing car for the money. I say get it!

Stilo 5 Dr 1.8 Dynamic 133 bhp Black. 3000 miles and counting.

I ordered it already Ham. Now it's late to change my mind I'm just waiting for the delivery. I just hope that I won't have to run to the dealer every two weeks.

I am sure you will be impressed with it.
Iff you have ordered the sky window it is terrific.

Let us know how you get on.
I have done 3.250 since I purchased it in April.
The engine is ust starting to loosen up a bit.

I like the seating position and the ride is good and it is comfortable. ;)

Don't worry about the moaners on the web. Evryone can find something to maon about if they want to!!

At the end of the day, all cars can have problems. The Stilo just suffers because of Fiat's bad rep in the past for making naff cars. The Stilo is sound and much better looking than dull old Focus's and Golfs.

Just enjoy it!!

I picked my new stilo up 3 weeks ago today and have had 2 minor niggles, which were sorted out by my dealer no problem and no fuss,There is a pre delivery inspection form which is worth checking over i had to counter sign with the dealer after he took me round the car on collection dayand it covered all the parts you would expect on a service,I really enjoy my stilo and have had people right up behind me trying to see what it it is..

Dave..
Dynamic 1.9 jtd, Sassi Grey, sky window, connect nav, 16" alloys, light, rain & parking sensors, i love this car.

I didn't get a sunroof (sky window). And definitely Stilo has very good looks. I got a black one with extra CD player, automatic A/C, spoiler, leather steering wheel and gear stick, which don't come as standards in Switzerland, and 17'' alloys. Something that already annoyed me with FIAT was that they don't have a brochure or a catalogue or something where you could see which alloy rims you get! I want the 5 spoke ones that Abarth comes with (I like them very much) but there is no catalogue number or something that would make me feel sure that I'll get them. The dealer insists that it'll come with these alloys and that are the only 17'' ones that come as a part of the equipment and not as accessories. We'll see... I'm also sure that, as Dave said, people are looking at Stilo. But that is because in the UK Italian cars (with the exception of Punto and Alfa 156) they don't sell much and people don't even know which one is Stilo. My gf's (who is English) parents still try to understand which car is Stilo :)

I believe that Fiat aren't keen on the Abarth wheels being on anything except the Abarth - Maybe this is why they keep the part number to themselves. I'm sure that if your bother your dealer enough they could have done something for you....

I have fiat accessories magazine i think the alloys in question are the split 5 spokes and i think serial number is 20901046. You can order the mag on the fiat web site.

1.6 dynamic, orion grey 17"s

About the wheels... I insisted a lot on that and the only thing I got was having the dealer writing on the contract that the car will be delivered with the 17'' 5-spoke wheels as those put on Abarth and seen on display. I hope that it will be enough. Thanks for the info and the serial number anyway, I'll look for it again, but when I looked at the accessories brochure at the dealer they didn't have the 17'' alloys on it. I think it's different from country to country!

If the dealer's put it on the contract/order form he cannot then give you different wheel - If he does, you can reject the car and cancel the order completely.

A contract is a contract.

I got today my new Stilo 1.8 Dynamic :) It's beautiful, it goes well, it was delivered with all the extras I ordered and it has a manual of 400 pages!! My PhD was smaller :D It feels less powerful than my Opel Astra GSI I had despite it has only 17 hps less (133 instead of 150). I already noticed a couple of things: the clutch makes a little clicking noise when I start with the first gear and the brake as well (when you first push it). I don't know if it's normal or a problem... I would also like to ask you if there is any way to check (is it written somewhere other than on the receipts given from the garage for example), the size of the engine? I want to be sure that they gave me one with a 1.8 engine and not with a 1.6 (sounds paranoid, huh??).

hi
ive just ordered a stilo 1.8 dynamic in black
for £9700 is this a good price
only thing is the 8 week delivery time [:(

thx

Price is OK for a 5 dr, but you could get a 3dr £200 cheaper from dixon motors.

I'd take the 8 weeks delivery with a pinch of salt - I ordered my Abarth on July 1st and was told "6-14wks, but they never take that long". Guess what, still waiting - latest estimate is October.

thx ham

ive looked at the dixon web site
the price is £9495 but when you and black paint £290
its £80 pound more plus its from my local dealer.
didnt fancy the trip up from oxford

i will ask the dealer too give me the delivery date in writeing.

at leased you know it hasnt been sitting in a compound for months
its form the factory.
theres a volvo compound down the road from me and new cars sit there for months in the rain.
