Sorted out my climate control, so all is working properly, or at least I thought it was...

I kept noticing that I was getting cold feet all the time.Even with the temperature set high and plenty of warm air from the dash vents and windscreen.

I remembered reading someone posting that the grilles on the footwell outlet directed the air up and away from the feet, so I took off the grille bit itself yesteday to leave the outlet open and see what happened.
I am still getting cold feet. I felt the outlet with the engine running, and there was decent warm air coming out of it, but somehow there is some very cool air coming out as well, feels like from one side or below the warm air - I don't have the cooler tuned on, by the way.
So why's there cool air coming out as well? I wa sort of thinking that it was just the climate control blending the air, but if the car was too warm it would be turning down the fan speed,

its probably the climate temp motor that combines outside air intake to combine the temp you want. i would recommend changing the climate fan motor you will find a thorough guide on this subject if you do a search.
 
Hi.
If you look at the fins on the plastic trim you can see if they point upwards, what I did was to cut them out (wire cutters) and super glued them back the right way.
I also noticed the cold air when the trim was off not sure exactly what fixed it as I removed the pollen filter before replacing the trim, so it could be the pollen filter was the problem or simply once the trim is back on it deflects the cold air away.
Lots of debate about pollen filters on here, my personal experience is they are unnecessary, I have owned two Stilo’s one had done 212,000 miles the other 115,000 both had the filters removed at about 50,000 with no ill effects.
 
Yes, I had taken the fins off and that's when I noticed the cold air... it seems to come from the bottom of the pipe, but I guess it could be coming from somewhere else and it feels colder realtive to the warm air from the pipe... the fins are sort of arranged to push most of the air up, and the air at the bottom (cold) to the back, by the look of things. But his could be complete hogwash.
When you realigned the fins, was it just the bog ones that were deflecting up that you changed?

If I remember correctly it was just the longest 2 or 3, I think I may have used epoxy glue with insulating tap to support it while it dried.
 
SOLVED (well sort of): Cold air in footwell

Regular readers may recall I had some issues with no airflow to the footwells, which turned out to be a sticking mechanism.
Anyhow, I was getting warm air and a distinct separate cold air flow as well. As advised by some on here, I took off the vent cover grille thingy and reengineered the fins to point downwards instead of up. At the same time, I checked the pollen filter and it was a bit mucky, so I took it out and left it.

Anyhow, this cured the cold air issue, and I sort of forgot about it. However, last week after discovering carparts4less, I remembered that I really ought to have a pollen filter, so I ordered one. It arrived next day, and I put it in the car on Sunday evening.
When I drove to work on Monday morning, I got an icy blast on my legs and feet. I checked, the filter was in place, the cover shut... still a blast, and it seemed to come from behind the side panel rather than the air vent. SO I took out the filter.... no more cold air.

So... I'm assuming that the filter provides enough of an inhibition to the air flow that a significant amount is forced out the sides of the filter housing rather than past the heater matrix? The filter itself is marked with 'air flow' and an arrow on it - I assume the air flows from the engine bay area towards the inside of the car? I did actually put the filter up to a hair-dryer, and noticed no difference in the volume of air passing through in either direction, so I don't really thing the air flow direction on the filter is the problem, just the fact that the air is hitting the filter, being deflected and escaping out somewhere...

Glad you got it sorted; I always take the pollen filter out of my cars as soon as they start to clog up.
Lots of different opinions on running without the filter, personally it’s never caused me any problem, two stilo’s 212,000 and 120,000 both had the filter removed at about 40,000.

i have pulled the pollen filter out of my stilo jtd115 uswel. no problems at all, and gives off loads more air. and iv had it out since iv owned the car about 2 and half years ago

Just a further point about the pollen filter. If it is there only to stop pollen entering the car, as opposed to protecting some mechanism or component, I imagine it would do no harm to take it out. Only people who are allergic to pollen would need to keep it in.

well i used to have hay fever but its gone now some how lol. i havent got a pollen filter and no trouble at all.
dont think that filter does anything, just stops the air coming through.

rip it out and keep it out = more air
