Hi all
I am looking for some advice on my 03 stilo jtd 115
It runs ok until I get to 2800 revs then no more power
Up to that point there is good acceleration, I thought it may
Be the MAF sensor and removed the plug but still the same
Cleaned the MAP sensor still no better cleaned the EGR and
Still the same the fiat scan software does not report any faults
Until I remove sensor plugs, I clear them and start again, is it
Possible that MAF sensor is faulty but not showing up, would
Be obliged if could get some help from you techy boys as to
Any possible fault.
Thanks

It's very difficult to properly clean the EGR. Not hellishly expensive new anyway & you know now how to remove & re-fit as a DIY proposition.

Check all the pipewrok associated with the turbo, especially if you have an audible "whoosh" from under the bonnet when you expect turbo assistance.

If MAF unplugged makes no difference - it's not the MAF.

Does it smoke ?
hi no smoke starts first time ticks over fine just this no power after 2800 revs
and no faults reported, i will put it up on ramps tomorrow to see if anything has
come off, seems a bit strange

even though you cleaned the egr it may be stuck open faulty solenoid. Try blanking the egr off with a baked been can if it fixes it then blank it off with something better they sell them on ebay for a few pounds.

thanks i will give that a try tomorrow, before i get underneath,

hi guys need new input on my stilo jtd

Hi all
More Input Req seems the real boffins have gone on there Holidays and why not.
The story so far and the info given is that my 03 stilo jtd 115 runs ok until I get to 2800 revs then no more power.
Up to that point there is good acceleration, I thought it may Be the MAF sensor and removed the plug but still the same, Cleaned the MAP sensor still no better cleaned the EGR and Taken forum advice blanked off EGR Still the same. the fiat
scan software does not report any faults unless I remove sensor plugs, I clear them and start again, today I put it up on ramps and checked for Leaky pipes but does not seem to be any, reading taken on software Is as follows batt volt 14v fuel metering 4mg/I pre inject time 11 Inject timing -1.o1 Air intake quant 513mg/I desired air intake 284mg/i Air quant sig volts 2v air temp 20c air temp sig 3v boost pressure 1020 mb Desired boost 1018mb boost solenoid 75% fuel pressure 300bar Fuel press sig 1.3v desired fuel press 301bar fuel press regulator 18.13 Engine temp 75c eng temp sig 1.6v baro pressure 1018mb sig 4v Gas pedal pos 0.0o% gas pedal pos sig 1 0.7v gas pedal pos 2 0.4v
if anyone can shed some light would help Any possible faults.
Thanks

When my EGR was buggered it did the opposite, would not run until 2800 rpm. My guess would be a boost leak on the turbo, I think the EGR is s red herring in your case.

Hi.
A bit of a long shot but I noticed while doing another job on my Stilo the turbo pipe rubs, you wouldn’t see it even on close inspection because it is up against the n/s plastic inner wheel arch, so you would have to pull it back quit a lot to see it.
I had two Stilo’s and both had the same fault, not worn all the way through on mine, but may have on yours.
So just to clarify it’s to the front of the n/s/f wheel where it comes out of the bottom of the engine bay in to the wheel arch, it then carries on to the inter-cooler.

Shop soiled, the data you have provided is next to useless as its at idle, you need to get the data at the speed the fault occurs (2800 rpm) and then repost it. It could be many things causing this issue, but from what you describe your boost seems the most logical area to investigate. By blocking the egr and disconnecting the airflow meter, these have been eliminated, so if there is an air leak on the air trunking or intercooler a loss of boost pressure would be noticed, but normally air loss is also associated with excessive noise through the induction system. A nice cheap alternative could simply be a blocked air filter, but a much nastier and more expensive possibility could be the variable geometry turbo, being partially or completely siezed. This normally logs an error but only after a prolonged period. Take the vehicle out on to a main road at 50 mph and accelerate at full throttle (engine warm), if what you say happens, the engine will plateau at 2800 rpm, keep the throttle pressed and usually within 30 seconds an error will be recorded. This will give you a clue as to what to test next. The turbo control solenoid and its vacuum supply can all cause issues like this as can the turbo itself, applying a vacuum to the turbo control actuator normally shows if it is siezed or free. The actuar rod should move approx 8 to 10 mm with a full vacuum applied.
Get the readings and let us know what the results are, parameters to monitor are throttle position sensor, engine speed, egr, target airflow, actual airflow, boost pressure and target boost pressure, fuel pressure and target fuel pressure.

thanks for that, was not sure about reading at idle spead myself.
since my last post i had a mech round for advice, he told me to
check all hoses and thats what i done satuday and took off
all the hoses to turbo air intake filter and also checked the turbo
and that was fine no fault with hoses, having a day off today
and will follow your info on monday and see how we get on,
will keep in touch

Update for my stilo 1.9jtd 03
Drove car at 50+mph at 2940 rpm for 40 secs twice
Returned home connected software and no associate errors found
Parked up and with the engine running at 2942
Boost pressure 1372 mb Desired boost 1248 mb

Air intake quantity with egr blanked 615 mg/I , without egr blanked 336mg/i
Desired “ “ “ “ 705 mg/I, “ “ “ 710 mg/i

Fuel pressure 419 Desired press 420
Throttle peddle when I took first reading it was 14.5% at 2942 rpm 2nd reading
100% it may have been that I did not have my foot to the floor on first reading?

Egr blanked starts at 100% then decreases to 1% at full throttle
Egr removed blank sits at 1% low or high throttle.

Vacuum actuator rod moves up and down depending on the rpm,
The one concern leaving aside the egr for the moment, is the air intake quantity,
So maybe it’s back to the filter housing, and further to the intercooler that I have
Already been to, air filter was replaced in august, so must of missed something.
I did notice there is another round filter in the air box worth a look, as I am running
Out of thing to try but seems like the box needs to come out to work on it.
Spoke to one local garage totally did not want to know, emailed a mobile mech
Saturday with details was supposed to get back within the hour and that was 2 days
Ago, think I will enter it in a demolition derby, all the other threats to it don’t
Seem to work, Heeeeeeeeelp my last fiat a marea est. jtd I had so much faith in
Unfortunate got hit by a large truck that did not stop,
This one had since June with all the air bag problems now cleared, I keep thinking
What next, oh the joys of motoring (but lost without one).

Thanks for new info, ok egr and airflow are related, when engine is hot, at idle airflow should be roughly 500 mg/l, with egr at approx 1%, rev engine hard and as engine regains idle, egr should open approx to 50%, airflow should be between 250 and 300 mg/l. Egr should remain open for approx 45 seconds and then egr should return to approx 1% and 500 mg/l. Check target airflow, during the whole test, you will probably find the egr open and closed target airflow is the same, so is a red herring.

Numanr would you believe it P0180 this fault along with P1612
Came up in July when I was looking for faults with airbag wrong
Lead I know, traced to the filter housing, found heater element o/c
Pulled the plug on P0180 refitted cleared fault for P0180 and
Ordered filter housing with heater and sensor off eBay P0180 did
Not show up again while having the low revs so did not suspect.
Having fitted the new housing yesterday and half filling with redex
Fired up and could not believe it full revs, took the sensor out of
The old housing and it must have been faulty, today started up and
Ran for 10 min stopped and pulled the plug on P0180 and sure
Enough low revs returned, so more by luck than judgment this
Time, a special thanks to Numanr for his very knowledgeable input,
And everyone else that replied,
Just waiting now for a new egr valve
