Hi All,

I have seen this problem pop up a couple of times with the 2.4 to quote some one else

"Basically, if you put the air conditioning on (cold - with the snowflake icon) all vents work correctly. You can select up (windscreen), horizontal (blowers) and down (feet) and air comes out accordingly and with some force.

HOWEVER, if you have the heating set to a warm or hot temperature the directional vents just stop working. Air will ONLY blow out onto the windscreen and none from the horizontal blowers or on my feet no matter what buttons are selected. Surely this must be something electrical?"

Was there ever a resolve for this? Some people suggest a polin filter change but as it comes though on cold I wouldn't have thought that would be the problem?

When ignition is on I can hear a repeated servo cycling, it never seems to go away?

Whats the best way to get to the heater? im hopping its not a dash out job :S

Hi,

Right there was a thread about this somewhere and if i,m damned if i can find it.
As I remember it you have actuators on the side of the heater box itself and the job of these is to direct the air whichever way you select.
The connector (small piece of plastic) can snap and as such the air either hot or cold gets pushed the wrong way. I cannot remember how many they are but they all need to be in the right position for you to get what you asked for. The plastic connector goes between the heater box and the actuator itself ie it is the drive connection. I hope this makes sense (probably not) and if you find the thread please let me know !!!

Cheers for now

I have just had a quick look and I can see that some one has taken that side of the trim off before (screw missing, why the hell cant people put stuff back?)

Any how, I now assume its as you suggest, and I expect to find no polin filter...

What can I say, im a glass half empty kind of person!

Hi,

One other thing (long shot) turn the ignition off then turn it back on hold both buttons on the air con panel in until you get zeros across the screen then release them , it will go through a calibration procedure, worth a try

Cheers,

Probably not much help, but here it is:

Climate Control Self Learn.

The AUTO and MONO buttons must be pressed simultaneously within 40 seconds of the ignition being turned to the ON position in order to activate this procedure. A few seconds later a figure will appear on the display (in place of the driver's side set temperature) which will count down to indicate the time remaining before the start of the procedure. At the same time (i.e. whilst the count down is taking place) the previous self-learning status is signalled on the passenger temperature setting:
  • '1' flashes if the previous self-learning procedure failed.
  • '0' indicates that the previous self-learning procedure was successful.
This procedure is not carried out if at least one of the above mentioned buttons is released whilst the figure on the left hand side is not zero (this is designed to check the outcome of the previous self-learning procedure).
Exiting the procedure zeroes the 40 second counting period from when the ignition is switched ON, to allow the procedure to be repeated without having to switch the ignition OFF.

There's also self diagnostics for the climate control but unfortunately, apart from engine speed, road speed, fan speed and gas pressure, there doesn't seem to be an accurate list of what the 72 different codes mean.

Start the engine.

1) Push the HRW button for 5 seconds. All the elements on the display will show up then disappear.
2) Push the HRW button again to go up the menu and the OFF button to go down the menu. The menu is from 00 to 99 as shown in the driver side temperature digits. The value is shown in the passenger side temperature digits.
3) To exit the menu, press the HRW button for 5 seconds then release.

See i told you he was the fountain of knowledge !!
Davren is there any chance you could dig out the part number for those little poxy plastic connectors that go between the heater and actuator???

Cheers for now

So then, is it most likely as in the 19th post on that thread that the plastic star pivot has broken between the flap and the actuator?
Looks like a bugger to get off, maybe a job for this weekend

Aye i will looking into mine at the weekend too!!! Shall we compare notes then then??
TBH they are not that difficult to get at (we live in hope)

Cheers for now

I think it more likely we will be comparing scars!

Do you have exactly the same problem as me then?

Same temps both sides, just refuses to blow hot other than on the screen? Blows cold though the vent fine!

When I bought my MW 2½ years ago, the climate control seemed to have a mind of it's own. Sometimes it wouldn't blow cold, sometimes it wouldn't blow hot, sometimes it wouldn't blow where I wanted it to.

I guessed it would be a flap sticking somewhere, so to "help it" move, I switched everything on full blast and drove down the motorway at 70 ;) to get extra ram air into it. Worked perfectly for about 6 months after that. Ever since, it's had the same problem once or twice a year and I've just repeated the process above again.

I doubt it'll last for ever like that, but if I can put off opening the heater for as long as possible. (y)
