I had a chance to try a Dimensione Sport diesel module today. There are two versions, the cheaper one, which only increases the fuel pump pressure and the more expensive one, which prolongs the duration of the injection intervals. Tested the acceleration with a G-meter (don´t know which one) and the Stilo clocked up 7.06 0-62 mph time on the first try. Seemed in line with what the speedometer showed so I think it´s pretty accurate. The car supposedly has somewhere inbetween 170 and 180 HP. It makes the car feel alive. Now I don´t want to hear anyone say that the Stilo can´t be considered a hot hatch :). As soon as I get the CAI and the exhaust I´ll try the top version to see if I can dip into sub-7 second territory :D.

Well, it´s a box that you attach to the fuel system of your Stilo and it modifies the fuel control signals. Gives more power. The results are actually similar to the remaps that Nige at Angel Tuning is doing, although if you´re not concerned about warranty I believe a remap (Angel) is still a better way to go, fully customized to your vehicle.

Not to mention, full tank of gas, yours truly (220 lbs) and a basketball player in the passenger seat (250-250 lbs). With a perfect start and winter tyres at 3 °C I got 7 seconds. We might still be able to call the Stilo a hot hatch :).

I presume this box is hardware, unlike the remaps which are 100% software based.

Exactly! If I were able to keep the warranty I´d definately get a remap. A module is untraceable though and a good compromise if you want to keep the warranty. I will however perform a remap, a cold air intake installation, an exhaust replacement and install a bigger intercooler as soon as the warranty expires. The car now goes as well as my Audi. Another piece of advice at these power levels is to buy a set of sport rotors and pads. Reached 120 mph in no time and stopped to 40 mph twice, plus some other braking events... Burned my rear pads :(.

A remap is untraceable is it not? Forget to take out the module and kiss your warranty goodbye?

I would quite like to lower and remap my motor but can't be bothered. Why can't Fiat offer some sort of mod service where you drive in and they lower it etc without any hassle - bit like MacDonalds drive-thru. The dealer said they could sort out getting it lowered but I never followed it up.

what is the situation if you deny all knowledge. I wouldn't have a clue if someone installed something in the engine bay. Not that I would though, my car is an expensive tool at the moment so don't like spending any more on it.

Yeah, not everyone´s cup of tea. A remap done via the OBD port is ALMOST untracable, but the diagnostics systems can pick it up. You take the box out before service and you´re covered. I have been entertaining the idea of lowering the car, but it´s already pretty low to begin with. Might just install a firmer suspension and leave it at stock height. That´s one heck of a sleeper.

Well, Examiner has no idea a remap is there, or do you mean other diagnostic equipment?

Other diagnostic equipment. Of course if the dealer allows you to perform a remap it´s not a problem anymore. I have to check with my dealer though... A good idea, if you´re remapping the engine is to install a bigger exhaust and intercooler, along with a filter. Will definately help the longevity with less backpressure and cooler temps.

With the EDC 16 ECU you cannot download from it to be able to say what is on it - you can only upload to it.
We have been doing quite a few of these 1.9 16v units and have even got the Alfa 156 Sportwagon 1.9 to below 8s 0-60 :)

Testing an Alfa 147 this weekend with the remaping, will let you know how it compares

But how expensive are these modules?? And how hard are they to fit?How about on their effects on the engines life??
I'd really love to have my engine remapped but i have several problems;
1. It's very expensive
2. I live in Spain and i really wouldn't trust anybody but angel tuning
3. I'm still not quite confident on my engine not having problems further on (has anybody done 200.000km with a remap??)(arn't theese diesel engines allready pretty tight ly tuned??? i mean, 140 bhp for a 1.9diesel is quite a lot isn't it??)

Thanks 4 your help

You are right with regards to the cost. At the moment, EDC16 reprogramming is expensive, even with ourselves where we try and keep every cost to a minimum for the customer. There is a heavy investment with this new kit which is why we have to charge £425+ to do it. It will probably come down in a year or so though to the level of the older EDC15 tuning (£300)

Spain is not an issue! We are off to Malta and Cyprus in the next 4 weeks to do this - God I hate my job lol!

Thank you for the comment re Angel Tuning.

The engines are well within their capacity at 140bhp to be honest. These are heavily engineered diesel lumps, not highly strung 1000cc Jap engines and 180bhp is nothing to the stress tolerances of them.

Thanx 4 the info mate.
If you ever come over to Barcelona (or reasonably close) please do tell me in advance and i'll see if i'mable to colect a bit af cash to get the remap done. (y)
Thanks again

So Nige, you´re saying that there is no way for the service tech to know that the car has been remapped via the OBD? That´d be lovely...
