The tailgate suddenly failed to open on my recently acquired Stilo estate.

After a bit of swearing, I managed to open it manually from the inside by placing a screwdriver in the slot in the plastic trim inside the spare wheel well.

Having stripped off all the paneling, I exposed the lock and managed to remove the small white cased electric mechanism behind the lock (held with two screws.

Before getting ripped off by a dealer for a replacement, I intend testing the mechanism by running 12v across it and seeing what happens.

1). Is the failure of the electric servo operating the door locks a common problem ?

2). Anyone got any ideas about how much a replacement servo unit will cost ?

3). Where is recommended that I might get a s/h part ?

Thanks for your response.

There is no key facility and the handle appears to just be a solid bar across the tailgate.

Perhaps you mean for another model ?

If not, exactly where is it found plz ??

In the middle of that bar/rail round the back where your fingers would be is a section of rubber with raised bumps for grip, you squeeze that and there's a micro switch inside the rail that, once activated, opens the boot.

In the recent cold weather, my switch must have gotten frozen up and wouldnt let me in, a jug of warm water over the grab rail fixed mine. I'm not sure if your one is down to the weather.

Also holding down the boot button on your keys for a few seconds will also activate the servo for you to then open the boot. and 2 fast clicks of the same button will open the split tailgate, there is also a bumpy rubber pad with a micro switch to open the split tailgate without the key. It's between the number plate lights.

Hope this helps.

my multiwagon has had a issue with the tailgate lock, the latch had come away from the base that is screwed into the boot, which meant to open the boot i was having to bounce the boot as it would not release properly, I have bought a new catch, stripped back the panel on the boot, only to find out that the part is incorrect, both have the same part number but instead of a single arm release mine has a spring loaded arm that moves to open the bar attached to the release catch, all the other latches i have looked at are all teh single arm like the one i have bought.

so

A) Do you think at some point its had a new lock etc with a non multiwagaon catch etc

B) the white motor was not attached where is that supposed to be attached to, it has the small piston that comes out when trying to open the boot, but cant see where its supposed to be attached to and how it drives the release.

C) why do all the jobs that seem easy end up being a royal pain in the bottom.............

Hi did you manage to sort your boot lock. My mechanism is cracked where it bolts to the body so I'm looking for a new one. Is it common with any other models?
