no unexpected skids?

i love it

but i know it can be scary especially if you brake lol:eek:

but you've gotta resist both pedals that can be testing

i did some skid training in a m3 last year id recommend it for this sort of weather

Ive not had any kind of training so i am a little nervous in the snow. I would say the Schumi is much better than my 1.6 was

I have to give kudos to my little fiat. I was the only person to make it to work including my boss who has a Honda 4X4 and i have the longest Journey.

This is the first really bad day where the grit has had no effect but i have done a fair few miles. This morning i almost got stuck on a hill coming out of Tesco's car park after a little play :p

It took about 15 minutes of ramming my car up the slope into the work car park. I came pretty close to sliding into the gate posts but my little baby still made it.
I was even over taking 4x4's in the Snow lane of the Dual carriage way on the way to work lol.

My philosophy is to only go as fast as i can be sure that im safe. I dont let faster cars behind me get to me and just carry on at the speed im happy with.

I have a 1.9 JTD MW, it has the ASR traction control. It was a trooper, i live on one lane small country roads that only get cleared roughly by local farmers and mine was so sure footed it was unreal lol. I had a little bit of a slide but it was a sharp bend UP HILL, so i had to build up speed and power before it, but then the traction control kicked in and brought the front end in check.

I may be a new Stilo owner, but I am amazed so far with it.

yeah this sort of weather always makes it a little less boring to work.... lol

dunno it's been sat under a six inches of snow since yesterday and i haven't bothered to uncover it. i'm not chancing smashing my car or someone else totalling it just to go to the shops. not worth it.

My 1.8 was rubbish last year as I had little
control over the engine revs as the cam sensor
/ cam wheel were not working correctly.

It does seem to be better now that's sorted
this year.

yeh had to swap my front tyres with 3mm left on them to the bk and now i have a healthy 6mm keeping me on the road lol

They're performing brilliantly.

We dont seem to have had as much snow as everyone else. I live on a main road that is completely clear of snow and ice. Things get a little slippy when driving of the main roads but being a sensible driver its not a problem.

Must admit, Tesco's car park was fun last night. Our local Tesco is open 24hr. Quarter past 10 last night I popped round to pick up some milk ready for this morning. Found a nice empty corner of the car park and managed a 6 mph hand break turn. Must be atleast 20 years since I attempted anything like that. Walked back in the house, milk in hand with a big grin on my face. :D

This is how the most cleared roads here look like in winter :) Underneath the gentle snow cover is solid ice:

I couldn't find a better picture, but last winter I had 2 meters of snow on my car and couldn't find it on the parking lot :)
And that's every winter :) Temperatures drop down to -30 in some places. It's amazing how you guys get so excited about two inches of snow ;)

Roads arent bad where I am at the moment. Much like Shadey's picture. Pavements are covered, but roads are clear(ish). What tyres would you recommend for winter?

Haha. Amen to that. That's why I've got a 77Ah battery under the bonnet. Today it was -15C°, but the car starts after a fraction of a second. :D

But the best part is that in summer temperatures easily reach 40 degrees so the Stilo and I are living in a 70 degrees temperature amplitude, no wonder all plastic stuff squeaks like crazy. There is something wrong with the weather this year there is no snow and yesterday it was 19.5 degrees (Celsius) . Oh.. and I finally fixed my external temp gauge and side mirror - the connector was simply disconnected.. who did that and why... no idea..aaaand... I just discovered that I have heated mirrors :D

Tomorrow I'll start practicing how to put snow chains on, cause the meteorologists proclaim the harshest winter in decades :(

:D It's more extreme for you than for me. I live in south Norway at the moment, where I've never experienced colder than -20 C° and hotter than +30 C°. So I've got max 50 degrees difference. Up north, where I lived earlier it would easily reach -30C° during winter, but that's not normal for a long period either.

Depends on many things. Driving style, road conditions and climate. But the stupidest thing to do is go for a budget tyre. That's false economy... The most important thing is to check the production date, and that they are all from the same lot.

Difference between winter and summer tyres in terms of grip is absolutely huge but aside from perhaps Scotland I don't think any UK motorists keep 2 sets of tyres (and wheels) so the best choice is probably a good general purpose summer/winter tyre.

For when it gets really rough probably a good idea to keep a pair of snow-socks in the boot (y)

You really don't have two sets of tyres? Here it is required by law that you have winter tyres... or they changed it.. not sure.. but traffic police did check my tyres once... I drove on summer tyres once, during a huuge snow storm through the Alps in Austria.... and never want to do that again.. it's just suicide.. i drove 5 km/h and traveled 200 km about 10 hours ...
