Hi,

I have a strange question about my Abarth's climate control. I've noticed that in this cold weather usually below 3'c the little icicle symbol disapears from the screen. The light on the button for the compressor stays on but the actual symbol goes off. If the temp goes above 3'c then it seems to be fine.

Is this just something they all do? Just seems a bit odd to me thats all.

Cheers

james

Yes aircon turns itself off below 3 degrees to stop it self destructing

This only with climate control or manual A/C also?

I've manual A/C that I constantly leave on, and have recently noticed that there is no circulation when fan speed dial is on 0.

Normally fan speed on 0 but, turning A/C on automatically switches fan on at speed 1 to stop it mucking up. Would this have stopped because the A/C has turned itself off due to the low outside temps

It's the same for ALL air con systems, they would harm themselves if the outside temp is already getting down to freezing so the air con system doesn't switch on at those temps;.

Yes that's why the cabin fan doesn't even switch on when you select air con with fan in 0 position, tickover doesn't rise and compressor isn't engaged- all aircon systems are off

Just a heads up to use the recycling switch on manual aircon when outside temps are so low in order to keep the cabin heat in. Pointless trying to heat up fresh and freezing air coming in all the time. Just turn it off now and again to prevent misting up

If aircon is working correctly then it won't mist up at all on air-recirculate ;)

The downside of using the recycling switch is it makes the windows mist up every couple of seconds. Quite annoying. I suppose at least if you crashed, you'd be nice and warm ;)

Only if A/C is switched off.

I've found out that my aircon works below 3C today. Compressor kicks in etc, although it was on the heat so not sure if car would know it was on heat or not with manual AC.

I think the 1.2s and the 1.4s are different in that they have a frost sensor actually in the aircon system to prevent it icing up so you might well be able to still use aircon on those when outside temps are getting below the magic 3 degrees. Others use the outside air temp i believe
