Hi All

Even though I'm at uni, I am still hearing of issues with my (well my mum's now) Stilo which our dealer seem to be unable to solve, even though the solution is staring them in the face!

The problem is with the Auto Headlights; they will stay on even in bright direct sunlight. I told them to replace the sensor to see if that helped (and the Rain Sensing Wipers were dreadful); touch wood, that helped the wipers, but still no help in solving the problems with the lights.

I then suggested that it was the body computer; I read up on it (on the Stilo CD), and when the body computer doesn't receive a signal from the sensor, it activates "Safety Mode" - puts the headlights on dipped if Auto is selected, and puts the wipers into standard (i.e. same system as if the vehicle didnt have the rain sensor) intermittent wipers, with adjustable times. I unplugged the sensor and confirmed this; a fault was registered.

This is what seems to be happening; the computer forgets about the sensor, and puts it into safety mode. When they checked the NBC on the Fiat Examiner, there were 7 CAN errors relating to the headlights. So, it went in, but to have "a software problem fixed". This (very surprisingly) hasn't worked, so we thought it was going to go back in to have a new body computer. Speaking to them today, they've said "We've downloaded new software for the body computer and are going to install the update to yours".

Is this a bunch of crap? The computer is only £140 - surely they've wasted that on labour in their investigations (Ben the mechanic who we've made do house calls now (don't want to keep going 25 miles and back) said he was on double time for this!!!)

Thanks

Looks like the penny's finally dropped and they might just be replacing the body computer . . .

Apparantly, according to reports from home, its like driving a volvo; the lights (dipped in this case) are practically ALWAYS on in AUTO mode!

They're also ordering some part to replace the wiring in the boot for the number plate light contacts; they've fallen off, hence they dont work and the computer is coming up with a constant fault.

The car isn't configured as a Scandanavian model is it - its a software setting done in the factory.

That would make the lights behave like a Volvo!

No its not configured that way, although it sometimes feels like it!

For example, the lights came on this morning (so I am told), as the car was parked next to the house (so casting a shadow on the light sensor). When the car was moved, bright sunlight was on the sensor, but still the lights would not turn off. 15 mins later, when my mum pulled up behind a bus, they go off?????

What's going on???????????
