just looking for some soulutions to my problem when i press the brake pedal or engage reverse i end up with bulb failure warning from rr indicator this clear when relaesing brake pedal, i stripped it down last week checked bulbs where fitted correclty and sprayed a bit wd40 on the contacts this seemed to have solved for a while but its come back again

any ideas what could be causing this

update- i have swaped bulbs round the fault stays on the same side,
i noticed the other day it became more frequent my heater control panel stopped working so i cheked the fuses and found a 7.5 amp blown but in the manual it shows this as reversing light bulb ichecked the bulb and it was working fine so i changed the fuse and as soon as i put the reverse this fuse blew again so i put a 10 amp in this is ok now but still receiving bulb failure for indicator when braking since changing that fuse its not happening as much.

i did notice that where the plug connects to the bulb holder theres a brown mark like scorching this pin is connected with the brown wire
from the plug

im thinking the bulb holder itself may be at fault?

sounds like something is shorting out to me, i'd remove the cluster and clean al connectors with proper contact cleaner and check all grounds/connections.

I agree with minimad99 (y)

....but never ever increase the size of a fuse without checking for shorts first.

You'll end up with a very big bill or even a burnt out motor

I had a the same problem on my 02 3 door,I traced it down to the earth connection on the plug/socket on the lamp unit itself,I cleaned both the male and female connectors and Bob's you uncle! it has been fine for over six months now,if I remember correctly the area around the earth terminal showed some signs of overheating and there was some muck on the connectors.

I'm thinking that i may end up with the same kind of problem. Going to change the bulbs tomorrow (rear fog and stop lamp) and see if the error disappears.

i have tried the contact cleaner today and its no better so i thought i would swap all bulbs from on side to other and see what happens, my passenger side bulb holder is corroded to hell:bang: but the problem has stayed on the drivers side have reduced the fuse back 7.5 and its been fine nust have been dodgy bulb for reverses lamp , if it is earth fault whats the best way to sort it out as you can imagine beep beep beep every time you touch the brake pedal gets on your nerves a tad:cry:

and thanks all for your replys so far

Try turning on the lights and operating the indicators and reverse lights,if the bulbs dim as the indicators work this would point to an earth problem.

I think that you may need something a little more aggressive than contact cleaner,I wouldd start by cleaning up the bulbs and holders with something like scotchbrite, also look at the male / female spade terminals on the loom to light unit connector block check for any signs of corrosion an or over heating I think that the earth lead is the black one but do check as my memory is not that good.a good tool to clean the spade connectors is an ing rubber.

sorted:D i have placed a wire to the indicator bulb and earthed to the body and it has solved the problem when i looked at the plug the black wire female connector also the male had a burnt look and when you trace it on the bulb holder the indicator is the first thing it connects to , so this must have been the culprit

thanks all for you replys (y)

My car had thexact same problem, uncle arnold told me it was sumthing to do with a fault on the exhust! So they fixed it, woohooooo then i discovered that all they had done was disconnect the wiring! typical:mad:
