Hi, I am new to the forum, got my 51 plate 3Dr 1.6 Stilo, however I have the "Engine Fault" on the Dash with the Engine Block Icon a steady orange. In reviewing this forum I found instruction on how to clean the MAP Sensor and fool the car into thinking its got a new one which I am going to try as we're getting 10MPG right now!. My question is will disconnecting the battery clear the fault code (P0105) as I do not have the kit to plug in a clear the code?.

Thank you for your support, the forum looks like its got people that know these cars better than the dealers, my local dealer wants £80 per hour to look after my car...

Yes that'll do it but how do you know you have a P0105 if you haven't got a tool to read and clear codes?
Are you just guessing? If so it could be unwise to clear any fault codes as it may be something else and you'd be erasing a great clue as to what is wrong

Deckchair, ahh forgot to mention, I called the AA out he read the code, after which I did the investigation on the forum, I asked him not to clear the code as I was not sure at that time if I was going to the local dealer or tackle myself.

By the way any good images of the MAP sensor location and removal?

And does anyone know of a good Stilo technical book, such as Haines who do not appear to have produced a Stilo book?.

Cheers.

Sure, it's easy to find. You don't need to take it out, just clean up the contacts with contact cleaner and make sure it has a good connection

Haynes did think about producing a manual but every page said "Refer to Dealer" as it was thought to be beyond mere mortals so it wasn't worthwhile:)

Most people get a CDROM from Ebay maybe and look in here for answers

You're not really "fooling the car", you're just telling it to "try again now". If it's happy then you're away, if not then it will tell you so

ok, disconnected the battery, it did not clear the fault code, still go Engine Fault on the dash. Have disconnected the Map sensor as per the instructions in another thread and re-connected. Any ideas on how to clear the fault?, I did disconnect both battery terminals and left it for about 15mins.

Do we have to disconnect the MAP sensor at the connector end or un-screw the two torx screws and remove/clean?

Thanks.

15mins may not be long enough. Leave it an hour or more, maybe overnight

If it won't clear then you'll need to buy a simple fault code reader- good investment as you'll use it many times no matter what car you have- or find someone that has one to clear the code

You don't need to remove the sensor, it's a pressure sensor so cleaning it won't do anything. But cleaning the electrical connection contacts may be all that is required

Thanks Deckchair for the good advise, I will disconnect overnight and report back.

Ok, disconnected the battery over night, but the Engine Fault is still on, have disconnected and cleaned the Map Sensor. MPG seems to be normal, just getting rid of the error now, any advise on the best kit to clear the codes.??

Thanks.
