hi guys, starting a new thread cause I need a bit of info, couple of weeks back I had a new ecu fitted, the old one died on me, so with the new ecu I have no more fault codes or poor fuel consumption, but the stilo does not seem to have the same "get up an go" as before, an when pulling away when cold it wants to stall, needs more than normal revs to avoid bogging down, the throttle seems to fall away ! then pick up with a jerk an your away, any ideas, is it a faulty ecu, or incomplete programing by the agents, all the service items are only 2 months old, there are no missfires etc, an no codes to read, so any thoughts please guys

I gather you've already driven for at least 2 weeks but I'd be inclined to re-set the ECU a 2nd time (just remove power for say 30 mins)

The ECU will then learn from your driving style.

I had to remove the battery from my JTD (headlight bulb :bang:) and I noticed it didn't run that well afterwards for a week or so.

Argonought do you mean disconnect the battery, or the plugs to the ecu ? and will the ecu reset/ relearn for cold throttle responce ?

Yes; the 'crude' way of reseting the ECU is to simply disconnect one of the battery terminals. Some people say you need to leave it disconnected for 30 minutes and some as much as 2 hours (for the ECU to lose its memory)

Sorry - don't know much about the throttle relearn procedure

Let it idle for about 10 minutes until fan cuts in - don't touch anything during this initial startup. Then shut off. Ignite again, and drive off and teach it.

sorry for the long wait for a replie guys, have been away down south for a while and am planning to carry out your pointers on the weekend, I wanted to see if the long trip made a difference to the ecu learning my driving, if thats the right term, it in fact made no change to the cold throttle responce/ smooth pulling away fault, promise to keep you updated.

well I am well chuffed, I eventually got off my arse an cleaned my throttle body, it was gunged up around the butterfly badly, also checked the new sparkplug gaps, the garage that supposedly cleaned/checked the throttle body had also closed the plug gaps to .7mm when my ecu failed, so reset gaps to .9mm an a test drive to windermere an back an the stilo is back to itself again, plenty of low end grunt, even sounds healthier, hot or cold, an its thanks to this great forum an everyones help, now if I can only sort out the clutch judder !!!!!

Mines always done this from v. cold

has it done it from new, you might need to follow what I did to sort the same problem, it was really bad when cold, now I have to replace the kerbside dip beam bulb which blew this morning, great fun I think not!

Not had it from new, bought 02 plate 4 years ago in may.

Seems to just do it briefly when first setting off when really cold, almost tries to stall, slight jump then goes fine.

Actually booked in for a service on Wednesday, should I ask for any adjustments?

I tried a good ragging , all the way from cumbria to london an back, made no diff, throttle body clean an good plugs gapped to .9mm an problem solved, need I say more !!!

So if I ask the garage to do 9mm spark plug gaps they are not likely to argue, is 7mm a standard?
