I own a 1.2 stilo (2004) and want to install parking sensors, there is only
one question which I can't find in the forum or the Internet.

Can I just wire the sensors to the break lights without any problems?

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't that mean they will only work with your brakes on? reversing & braking at the same time is a tough one. I might be completely wrong and often am.

if i remember from my friend, he simply had a on/off switch on his dash (he wanted it that way) so he could turn it on and off when he wished, he aslo had it this way because two or the sensors faced slightly outward on the rear corners, this way he could use the sensors when squeezing out of tight gaps so he dident scrape the rear wheel arches....kinda cool really...

i might be wrong, but if you set them directly to the rear lights then if you have a blown reverse light you will lose the paring sensor, or they will trigger on all the time....

maybe you could wire it a little ifferent?
but it should be simple to do (apart from making a good job of cutting the holes !!)

good luck :)

Thanks for the welcome.

There are instructions how to install, did this in several "older" cars but they were quite easy wired and without any problems you could connect them to the wiring of the reverse lights.
Learned that this with the stilo differs so that's why I wanted to be sure.

It will be OK to connect to the reverse lights wiring. The only problem is it could upset the bulb failure warning, but I don't think that is actually connected to the reverse lights anyway.

Yes you can connect to the reverse lights. Did it on my dads MW. Took about an hour for the whole job. Dead easy.
I used scotch locks to make the live connection and fastened the earth to a screw in the boot. It works perfectly.(y)

Thanks,

It's not going to be a job for the weekend, so results have to wait.

katanabandit1: Is it true that, when the black strip is removed there are already spots where to drill and the sensors can be mounted?

Is yours a 3 door? If so the holes are there but the only problem you may have with after market one'e is the size of the hole. On my 3 door the standard fiat sensors are way bigger than the aftermarket one's I put on my dads mw. Just make sure you cut the hole's in the black strip with the correct size hole saw. But if the holes are there it means you will get the sensors in the right position on the car. In your case I would drop the bumper off and have a look from the back. You should be able to se the holes. With a very small drill bit make a starter hole for the hole saw on the inside of the bumper. Turn the bumper round to the outside and use your hole saw from this side. The finish will be better as the hole saw will leave a slightly ruff edge on the far side when it pushes throught. Also a very sharp craft knife/ stanley knife will come in handy to trim these edges off.
Good luck with it, just take your time and make sure you drill the holes in the right place. There is no going back after the first cut is made. LOL

Thanks,

Yes it is a 3 doors, I fully understand that if I go wrong with the drill I will need some filler. The kit that I bought contains a hole drill so I will have the correct size.

Longer than I intended, only a few months

Installed my parking kit without problems.

Even removing the rear bumper wasn't so hard as I assumed.

Yes, in the black strip where Fiat puts it's original parking sensors.

Gutted for you having to have the gastly sensors.

Here's mine ;)

Thought about it, but didn't like what they ask for it, and the display in the car was not one of my favourites, and I wanted wireless.
