Technical Fiat Stilo Judder when pulling off

Dropped the car off this morning to be told, if there are any charges you will have to pay and then we will re-imburse afterwards! WTF. What?

Anyway, had no phone call as of ten minutes ago, so i called and they have only just put it in the workshop! I only ope that whoever drove it into their got the judder when they pulled off.........

Skanks!

Keep watching........

Right, went and collected the car. They agree that it needs a new clutch. They charged me for telling me that i need a new plastic bit to stop the clutch squeaking, they didn't drop the gearbox or clutch to investigate they need to book it again to that. The mechanic i spoke to said it needs a new flywheel et al.

£65 they carged for telling me that! Skanky gits. Then they told me that i need to book it in to look at the clutch/gearbox and that if it is wear and tear i would have to pay for the parts and labour. The car is only 4 years and has a measly 27000 on the clock. I can't believe that its wear and tear, but i also can't afford to get it fixed if it is!

Any ideas?

I'm getting a call from the head man of Fiat for my area on Monday, i'm going to argue the case, but who knows.....

Cheers

Thats hardly fair, especially since it still has warranty!

Although it could be wear and tear, a clutch can last 5K or 150K depending on how its used, or abused!

If i were you i wouldnt take it back to the dealer, it seems obvious your going to have to pay for the clutch replacement, so maybe get it done somethere cheaper - fiat specialist maybe.

Which is bad news for me then! As mine seems similar, although its not too bad, it has its good and bad days.

Did they give you a quote for the replacement clutch?

I have just been given a quote from the Fiat dealership for fixing the clutch. £350 in total.

Agghhhhh, i'm not made of money!

Right, spoke to the warranty company and they said i can take it to any garage i like!

So i took it my local garage, know the chief mechanic pretty well and he had it for the day, running around now and then, and he said the judder is there, but not that bad. He recommended that i leave it alone until it gets worse, that way he said that he would have less trouble with the warranty company.

The company is Hitatchi and its an approved premier plus warranty. Whoopie-do.

Cheers.

Aslong as you get it done before the end of your warranty.

Id have thought the sooner you get it done, the better it would be. If you leave it a while the warranty may just say its wear and tear and down to you.

I think im going to have to get a new clutch put in, probably the flywheel too. Its annoying that the judder is only occasionally, but its very bad when it does appear.

The bite point is also very unpredictable too.

Mine is only the judder, and when i do get, you are right, it's very violent. I've booked it in to another garage for them to look at on Monday, they might say something different, we'll have to wait and see.

I want it done for peace of mind. I'm going away camping in a few weeks and i can do without the car breaking down!

Cheers

Hi ALL!
Im new to the fiat world having just bought a stilo 1.6 16v.
I purchased it private, When i test drove it it was all good and had no probs.
Now a few days later its gained the judder as described above:mad:, very bad from cold and gets better when the car is hot. Any ideas ?
If i leave the car running on the drive for 10 minutes before moving it drives fine, but try starting and driving away its like a bucking bronko ride:eek:!
I have bleed the clutch as suggested on the forum and cannot see / hear a misfire.
Thanks for any advise
Rob.

My clutch judders for a week or so and then it is fine for a month and then it starts again. It has been doing this for a couple of years and I have not been able to identify any particular pattern to it. No hint of any oil leak from the gearbox. I have learnt to live with it, like all the other Stilo idiosyncracies. I don't have an answer as to the cause, but I do have a theory. I think it is a combination of weak engine mountings and dust in the axial dampers in the clutch plate.
