Is it possible to put a split tailgate on my mw as it would come in useful with the dogs, Or is there electrics and stuff to worry about.

Thought i would ask the question as im about to buy a tailgate guard for it and had a thought about the split one.

Ta very much.

There will be wiring involved as the whole thing is controlled by the body computer of the car. You could bypass this and wire it up so that it works without the computer, but it wont be plug and play.

My MW has the split and I have to say that it is more of a novelty thing than for practical use. I can see how you would get dogs to jump in but wouldn't the paintwork suffer ?

As john55 says, fitting from parts would be a major job, and getting a complete tailgate assembly from another car might need a bit of configuration of the body computer (although I suspect not).

Let us know what you do.

Well my idea was just to be able to open the window and put some mesh behind it as then they can get fresh air, sometimes when im out and they cant come in the pub and stuff like that.

I will get a tailgate guard then i think, might be just as well.

Thanks anyway.

You can get grilles that fit in the side windows specifically for this purpose.
Your alarm (if you have one) will complain and the car does not lock if one door is left open.
