Last night the missus went out for a meal with her mum. Parked in parking slot outside restaurant. Massive accident on the adjacent road and one of the cars involved smashed into the rear of the (parked) Stilo and shoved it into a vintage Jag parked next to it - pushing both cars along by four feet! Quite a bit of rear end demage.

Good things were (1) No-one badly hurt (wife was still sitting at the meal table!) (2) Whole thing witnesses by a Police car coming the other way (3) Everything captured on the restaurant's CCTV.

Point of this note? In case Stilo is a write-off, anyone been through the process of buying a write-off from the insurance company, repairing it then re-registering it? Any tips? Cheers.

I bought my Punto back after it being declared a Cat D write off, i just told the insurance company i wanted it back to get repaired myself, they sent me a cheque for the cars' value minus what theyd get for selling it for salvage & asked me to make arrangements for the car to be collected from their repairers, then the garage id asked to repair it took it on a truck back to their site & repaired it.

I had to get it MOT'd to satisfy the insurance company that it was road worthy following the repair, and in some cases you might have to get it VIC tested (Vehicle Identity Check, i think), but i didnt have to so i don't know much about this, except that it's done by VOSA (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency) at one of their sites. I don't think it's any big deal tho.

Woudnt bother IMO not worth the agro when you can by them so cheap nowadays..time to say by by and move on to a panda..

No no no, I have just had mine written off by the insurers, repairing it will probably cost you more than its worth just take the money and move on, put it this way time for an upgrade wish you luck though still waiting for my check after accident happened on the 9th of apr tthis year.

It will be written off with that damage. Stilo's are now written off for most minor damage (especially if it is in 2 places on the car). They will more than likely want you to pay more to get it back than the value they would actually get at auction for the damaged car. Damaged Stilo's only get a few hundred at the auctions. Just take the insurance cheque (argue with them if they offer too low an amount) and buy another one.

I used whatcar to get mine valued because ins was giving me about £200 less and autotrader for similar models dont forget to include extras fitted at factory. any after market parts go and take them off quick.
