I got my new instrument pannel fitted on Friday to cure the fuel sensor fault I was getting. Needless to day it hasn't cured it and the car's going back in on Saturday again! Also when you get yours fitted, make sure they rest the service indicator (need to do this for a new panel) they never did on mine.

Thats not good if they had to remove dash etc to fit it and still no cure :(

cmc sorry to hear this dude, ive given up all hopes on this fault being diagnosed, fixed, agreed there is a fault, ect, ect ive accepted that this hopefully is a minor fault and is not two much to worry about after all fiat couldnt give a s**t,just enjoy your stilo,by the way does your fault only happen when your engine is just under 1/4 tank or all the time, mine only happen when under 1/4 so i just make sure i fill up more often, not ideal but it workks:)

Andy

sorry I forgot you had this problem too. Yip it only happens when the tank is just under 1/4 full. I'm just worried that when I go to sell it, I'll get hassle and the way I see it, if I've got a warranty it should get fixed. So I'm going back in on Saturday to get it looked at again. I've asked the garage to call Fiat technical group to try and get a solution. I just find it very annoying.

keep fightin cmc,i just wish i had the time and patience like yourself to sort this prob out, please cmc keep me posted on any developments[8D]

cmc/Andy,

Mine had the panel changed yesterday so will have to wait until I'm lower on fuel to see if it's any better...will keep you posted.

The service indicator wasn't reset but as i'm only 1500 miles off my 24k service i'll leave it until then.

It's back in next Friday for more work on the wind noise as it's worse than ever now but hopefully it will get sorted out this time as TC has his booked in for the same thing the day before so his car is the guinea pig :p

Also getting them to look at the rear suspension as it's started to groan again and the clutch has all of a sudden started to creak as well!

Well I went back on Saturday and the service receptionist tried to convince me that this was "normal" and “it's just the electronic system searching for fuel when the fuel is in the red and that it is not a fault.” This is complete rubbish it is a fault! The mechanic said he'd seen it before and that the examiner was recording an intermittent fault (the last 4 times it had been in they claimed the examiner reported nothing at all!). They even had the cheek to say you shouldn't run your fuel so low anyway [:(!][:(!]. That way it won't happen. The technician then said I don’t know how to resolve it and I don’t know if it’s normal.

My response was "so your telling me that Fiat spend several million developing a car but we’ve all to remember not to let it fall below 1/4 of a tank as we’ll get a fuel level sensor fault message?" I then said "explain to me why the manual says that if I get a fault on the display then go to your nearest dealer". Of course this drew a blank from them.

b*ll*cks I say, they simply don't know how to fix it. So I complained to the quality control guy at the dealer and I am going back AGAIN tomorrow this time to see the head technician. I demanded they speak to Fiat Technical but they insisted that there head technician have a look at it first and if he can’t find a solution then they will contact Fiat. To my mind they have already demonstrated a staggering level of incompetence and they should just save me another wasted journey and go to Fiat direct. I don’t know whether it looks bad for them by going to Fiat or indeed they get a recharge of costs but it’s frustrating as hell for me having to keep going back.

Anyway I'm taking pictures with me tomorrow of the fault in action and a copy of the page from the manual. I’m not letting this go until it is fixed or Fiat Technical themselves give me an explanation of why it does this. Rant over

by the way i know ive proberbly alreadytold you this but i emailed fiat direct about 2 months ago now with quite a lengthy email explaining this problem and guess what, they still havent emailed me back,if only i could email fiat italy and let them know about the s**te service we get in the uk,hey they may even know how to fix the problem, what worrys me is if what happens is the "norm"why havent loads more people spoken about it in this forum, ithink were a minority

Andy

I took my car down on Friday and they said unless I have the fault coming on at the moment it was pointless me being here (I had a full tank of fuel). I was raging [V] another wasted trip to the dealer so I demanded they contact Fiat technical group on Friday and they said they would but of course Arnold (promises delivered) Clark never got back in touch with me so I'm going to call back today.

I used that arguement as well that if it was normal then surely you must have lots of Stilo owners calling you to check that this mysterious "normal" fault code should happen. The answer was no. I said does that not tell you something?

They simply don't know how to fix it and are fobbing me off because of this. If I don't get progress today I'm demanding the name and address of someone at the technical group and writing a letter of complaint pointing out that the dealer simply has no solution and I want them to take up the case.

Just got back from holiday and I think I might be getting somewhere with the fuel level sensor fault isse (after 5 months and 6 visits to the dealer).

The dealer phoned me back on Thursday, two weeks after I demanded they spoke to Fiat technical about this fault as they claimed it was "normal" fot the car to do this. Fiat technical said this should not happen under any circumstances and it was not normal (Arnold Clark fobbing me off?? never :p). Anyway the Fiat techs said the only thing that could be causing this is a faulty fuel level sensor (just what the bloody message on the panel says!! i.e. Fuel Level Sensor Fault - talk about stating the obvious!).

So after all the diagnostic checks, the new instrument cluster panel, the numerous trips to the dealer, the fobbing off, the blank looks, the lies about it being "normal" for the car to do this - it is a faulty fuel sensor! If the idiots called technical group in the first place it would be resolved by now!

So a new fuel sensor is beng ordered and it is being changed. At last. Lets hope the technical guys are a bit more competent than my dealer - who I'll never be going back to after this.

Anyway rant over :D. You guys should put this to your dealers and try and get it sorted out. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

fair play cmc,i await your reply in anticipation,by the way im getting fuel sensor fault even when ive got just over a quarter of a tank now, talk about bloody anoying even my misses is asking why the car keeps bleeping everytime i start the enginecmc im going to ask you a massive favour if this prob gets sorted out after they have fitted the fuel sensor could you get your dealer to email research garage nuneaton explaining how to sort the problem out this way it might be worth taking my car in,this would be much appreciated,ps hope you had a great holiday[8D]

Andy

I'll certainly ask them to e-mail them, whether they do or not is a different story! I'll also try and find out excatly what they done and try and get the part number and post it up so if all else fails you can approach the garage armed with this information. You should also push your garage to call Fiat technical group. That way they will become aware that this is a bit more widespread.

Purplemonday, did the new cluster cure your problem?

So far so good - no Fuel Sensor faults since the cluster was replaced although I had a scare a week or so back when I had an engine fault appear although nothing showed up on the examiner.

The garage called me about half and hour ago. They said they now have had a chance to have a look and strip the parts down. They are replacing the fuel level sensor AND the fuel pump. So much for "this is normal and there's no fault"

They are going to call back tommorow when the part is in and they do the work. I'll ask them to e-mail then Andy.

youve got a bit quiet cmc, have you got any updates, perhaps you are in shock because you have had your prob sorted,or perhaps you are just still waiting;)

The garage called me last Wednesday to say they were going to order the fuel pump in - they never called back. The car's been with them since the Friday before last (I don't need the car at the moment as I'm working down South).

I plan to collect the car on Saturday so I'll give them today/ tommorow before I give them a call. I figure that if they have plenty of time they can have a proper look and do it properly so I was trying not to hassle them.
