Technical fix-a-squeak thread

i want to create one sticky thread where there are all the discovered rattles and squeaks and their definite solutions. once the thread is complete, it would then be transferred over to the guides section. pictures of the solution process are an added bonus. deckchair has already kindly done one over in the guides.

i have currently got a knocking coming from the front passenger side, a rattle down the passenger side (maybe in the door?), a squeak/rattle around the skyroof, one in the boot somewhere, and that damn rear wiper

so what im after is a definitive guide to curing your stilo from ALL possible rattles and squeaks. this thread will be open as a dicussion till all the information is collected, then the mods would kindly tidy it all up into a guide :idea:

Complaint: Annoying squeaking coming from passenger seat.

Solution: Removed wife from vehicle.

Solution.. Thump the far left of the upper glovebox door every time the rattle gets annoying. Ok its a temporary one but I have no idea where its coming from at all!

A squeak occuring from the offside front corner dash can often be the sound muffling foam under the bonnet. The small piece of black foam that seals in the corner of the bonnet just near the windscreen/hinge.

Suspension squeaking is very annoying ..more so when you are parked up with the girl you love in a lay by :devil:

I've noticed a rattling from the left front of the interior. I now need to decide whether it's inside the door or the dashboard. I think I'll start by emptying both gloveboxes...

Strange how some rattles can end up being so easy to fix.

My last one was a CD case in the door pocket :bang:

It seems to be the sound of rubber against rubber ( the glovebox door against the door or the bit of dash above the glovebox

Speaking of metal clunks - I think I have the brake pedal cross-rod loose, I seem to recall reading about it here, and sure enough, it goes CLUNK each time I drive one way or the other...
