Re: Fairwell my Friends...

D4 is the connection block in the battery housing, it is the main link for light wiring to the engine. It has several important wires which run through it, including CAN lines, throttle potentiometer signals, etc, etc. It is one of the most demanding connector blocks in that it is susceptible to alot of vibration, heat and cold, and if the engine bay gets steam cleaned with the battery cover off it can trap water inside it. All DETs know this connector and its regularly checked for any signs of problems during diagnosis procedures.

This makes a lot of sense

I used to have the occasional error reported on mine until I up-rated the headlamp bulbs. This required the removal of the battery so I gave this area a good clean during the process.

........ever since the motor has been 100% (just hope I don't regret saying that)

Re: Fairwell my Friends...

The D4 conecter is behind the battery take of the cover and you will see a largish block about 9cm x 4cm this has a lift up lever on the top when you pull this lever up a piece in the front will push out after that who knows cos i havnt been able to get the damn thing to seperate so if you do POST IT HERE (y)

Thanks. Mine just lifted straight out after raising the lever.

Re: The infamous D4 connector

Hehe.......sorry just my sad/twisted idea of fun.

One way to comfirm it is D4 is by the following(remember D4 connector is 3 rows of 8 terminals);
A1=S
A8=A
B1=HL
B8=HN
C1=VB
C8=AN
check these wiring colours with the terminal posistions & you have your connector;)

LOL bet you Decks away outside already with a torch & wiring guide.

Re: The infamous D4 connector

Just taken out the engine-bay fusebox (hence unplugged D4) as mum's Stilo had the EPAS (Electronic Power Assisted Steering) failure again yesterday; my dad had to drive the car 25 miles home with no steering assistance and against the motor!! It always seems to happen miles away from home . . . :p

Took the fusebox apart, and all of the tracks are showing signs of corrosion, some rather bad! I wonder if this is causing voltage / current issues and causing the EPAS warning??

Re: The infamous D4 connector

Yeah, I believe it was taken out when the engine was steamwashed as it was in the boot when we picked the car up; and we'd been told the engine had been steamcleaned. Maybe the garage left it in the boot to jump it then didn't put it back on??

Do you reckon this is the cause of the EPAS problems?

Re: The infamous D4 connector

HI everyone, dunno much bout this d4 connector but was drivin today and all my dials fell and the error message 'Loose Connection' came up!! my dials keep coming back on then all falling again, what do i do? where is this d4 thing?

Re: The infamous D4 connector

Why this much esoteric crap? (n)

I have been in other forums where good qualified technicians and mechanics help others without any interest, just for the joy of helping people, without the "take it to a dealer" song.

Re: The infamous D4 connector

As stated, D4 is a series of connectors that are located in the battery box. To gain access, remove the battery box lid, then the battery. Lift up the grey fusebox (remove screw), and you'll see two connectors clipped to the battery box - these are D4.

Whilst you're there, check the connectors that go into the bottom of the grey fusebox.

Re: The infamous D4 connector

Hi all

I think I am a victim of the D4 connector thing - Power steering out sometimes comes back, but currently not been working for a few days.
error Cosed U1702
Changes some fuses recently and one screw was missing from the battery cover, , meaning water may have been able to get in.
So I guess there is a good chance it is to do with D4

My question is: Once I find the connector, what do I do with it? Dry it? how?

Hi.. My car dnt start it says Loose connection .. something to do with the car security.. is this because the d4 connector?
