I think we should have a maximum sig size, say a maximum height and width, like they do on some forums.

I dont mean to be a kill joy or anything, but peoples sigs are getting sooooo massive that its getting hard to read some threads and soon we are going to be getting one reply per page!

What do you reckon Ben?

your siggy dont work ;) lol

the ones that annoy me are the ones which mess up the table widith and therefore the continuity of the forum layout (the tables etc)

I think mine does that. May have to cull a few bananas!

It looked OK on my non-super-wide screen too Jonny, BRING BACK THE BANANAS! I actually don't have a problem with tall signatures (I have a so called 'fancy' mouse with a scroll wheel: well I don't think it's that fancy I thought they all had them these days ), it's wide ones that cause me issues. Quick and easy to scroll down a page but it annoys me having to break off to scroll across and back. No culprits here mind! And if file sizes or physical sizes are too big, what is the problem with turning them off, I surfed this forum quite successfully for a year that way?

People dont want to turn sigs off, they have to if they want to read some threads otherwise it becomes tedious and boring.

And if we dont have a max sig size, peoples sigs will be becoming bigger and bigger! (n)

Some peoples sigs are bigger than there actual posts! It seems that its just a way to bump up the size of their replies without actually having anything interesting, helpful, constructive, etc to say.

LETS HAVE A MAXIMUM SIGNATURE SIZE!

Helz, i never said that your posts werent interesting, helpful or constructive, i merely said that as some people who have large signatures do and use their sigs as a cover up.

Ok, so i do think that your sig is a bit on the large size (but there are plenty of other people who have similar sized ones) but i actually think that your posts are informative and an intellegent way of responding to this discussion.

Sorry if you thought that it was directed at you Helz, i didnt mean any offence to you :)

Sorry, reading that back I got a bit hot under the collar . It was just because your post came under mine, thought you were replying to it.

EDIT - there, physically I've shrunk it but in return you get a massive file size and the jpg is rubbish so errrrmmmm hope the trade-off is worth it ;)

I prefer that one Helz, the jpg looks fine too :) (y)

If only more people would downsize their sigs, the forum would be a safer place :D

Oh, and take quotes out of their sigs too!

FF wouldn't be FF without sigs IMO.

Chris, are you just peeved that you don't have a quote in your sig? You could use that one!

Not being offensive mate, this just seemed to come out of the blue, most sigs let you know who has posted and also I don't usually notice that many changes to the sigs unless I look real close.

It would be silly IMO to cull the sogs cos some folks connection or equipment couldn't handle the FF properly.

Ok, ok, it seems that im in the minority regarding sig sizes.

I only raised the subject as in the time i have been a member of the forum sig sizes have gone from being relatively small to being ridiculous. In the next year or so they might double in size again, who knows, as everyone seems to be trying to out-do each other on the size of their sig.

Liam, i have never said that i dont want sigs on the forum, but some guidelines regarding them may be useful.

My 15" TFT SVGA+ 1400x1050 screen can handle a lot on the page but I do agree, it's sometimes annoying when the signature is huge and requires scrolling to read the following post even though it was a one liner post. I just think "guidelines" are better than imposed "law" :)
