Some facts: I´m norwegian. This forum is english.

Still many posts are in a strange language. Example below:

"Thnx so much really appricate it good 2 o ppl still love a gud uno now a days thnx for advice ppl ne websites for those exhausts".

What kind of way is this to write? Shouldn´t school DE-teach things like this?

I guess the forum´s majority is from the UK, but some foreign members are active as well. We are willing to help and participate, but when it gets annoying to read a post, it may get ditched quickly and not answered.

So please write so it is possible to read.

Re-reading this thread nobody is actually arguing that it should be allowed. Maybe a ban just for a trial period would be good. I mean people could just ask nicely if they see it, but it needs to be an 'official' rule to do that...

i am against it in general but i dont think there needs to be a rule against it. i think thats a bit clicky personally and you can usually tell what people are trying to say anyway. i dont like it when people do really confusing long word or sentance abbreviations really but hey are convenient if you don't have much time to post. it took me about 6 months on here to work out what pmsl and imho means. lol (lots of laughs!)

I don't mind u or 2 etc.. instead of the word because it is obvious what is being put across and doesn;t slow down reading.

Funny, I always read lol as standing for 'laughing out loud', although I am not disputing 'lots of laughs' in anyway :)

It took me months to work out that one and I still don't get some of them. And I'm crap with smilies I never know what they're supposed to be. But it's not that that that I've got the problem with because those are recognised forum things and abbreviations.

I think txt spk is different to that and it's not the odd word it's where a sentence is litered with it that gets me. I have to read it 5 times just to understand what it's about sometimes and others I give up. I've got a good example but I won't post it - I don't want to annoy the person who posted it originally.

I have learned loads since being on here and a few i knew already-

IMO- in my opinion
TBH-to be honest
IIRC- If I recall Correctly
ATEOTD-At The End Of The Day (not too popular though, but heh)

LMAO-laughing my ass off (also referred to as LAMO, by paul :p )
PMSL- pissing myself laughing

IMHO - in my honest/humble opinion
IME - in my experience
WB - welcome back
NP - no problem

er, got me thinking now - trouble is, they tend to come naturally when typing, so hard to pinpoint them exactly.....

That translator website works quite well actually and has been added to my favorites.

that quote is just pure laziness. bit different to the odd lol, pmsl etc. i think that should be banned.

Joe, Stu, you have done me a HUGE favour and taught me 5 new abv's I used to read around. cheers!
